David Simon, creator of the hit HBO shows “The Wire” and “The Deuce,” has been banned from Twitter after wishing death on a Trump supporter in the most graphic of ways.
“You should die of a slow-moving venereal rash that settles in your lying throat,” Simon told the Trump supporter.
Shortly thereafter, Twitter locked Simon out of his account. In a post on his website, Simon doubled-down on his death wish by refusing to apologize while expressly hoping that Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey will “die of boils.”
He reasons that since conservatives supposedly traffic in the worst kind of ideas, his wishing grotesque death on people is the least of it.
Suffice to say that while you can arrive on Twitter and disseminate the untethered and anti-human opinion that mothers who have their children kidnapped and held incommunicado from them at the American border are criminals — and both mother and child deserve that fate — or that 14-year-old boys who survive the Holocaust are guilty of betraying fellow Jews when there is no evidence of such, you CANNOT wish that the people who traffic in such vile shit should crawl off and die of a fulminant venereal rash.
Slander is cool, brutality is acceptable. But the hyperbolic and comic hope that a just god might smite the slanderer or brutalizer with a deadly skin disorder is somehow beyond the pale. Die of boils, @jack.
It only took David Simon wishing horrible deaths on people for Twitter to finally ban him, not his previous call to violence advising anti-Trumpers to take up bricks and riot in the streets if they don’t get their way.
Will HBO fire Simon like ABC fired Roseanne Barr for disgusting tweets? Don’t hold your breath.
