Nora Foster, wife of Sex Pistols’ Johnny Rotten, has died after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 80.

The 67-year-old former frontman of the band — born John Lydon — shared the heartbreaking news on Thursday in a statement on Twitter.

He captioned the tweet, “Rest in Peace Nora Forster. It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that Nora Forster – John Lydon’s wife of nearly 5 decades – has passed away.”

“Nora had been living with Alzheimer’s for several years,” the tweet added. “In which time John had become her full time carer.”

“Please respect John’s grief and allow him space,” the tweet continued. “Rest in Peace Nora. Heart felt condolences to John from Rambo and all at PiL [Public Image Ltd.] Official.”

The tweet included a sweet photo of the rocker and his wife embracing while standing beside a door.

Foster’s death comes only months after Lydon had released a touching song dedicated to her called “Hawaii” with his band Public Image Ltd, MSN.com noted.

One part of the song read, “All journeys end/Some begin again/And we’re here, you and me/Hawaii (Hawaii), remember me/I remember you, Hawaii (Hawaii)/Hawaii (Hawaii), remember me/I remember you, Hawaii.

Another part of the chorus read, “Don’t fly too soon/No need to cry, in pain/You are loved/Again, again
/Hawaii/You and me/All those good times
.”

The singer previously described the song as a love letter to his wife, detailing one of the couple’s happiest moments together in Hawaii.

“It is dedicated to everyone going through tough times on the journey of life, with the person they care for the most,” Lydon shared. “It’s also a message of hope that ultimately love conquers all.”

The rocker walked away from the stage several years ago to care for his wife, and had also became an advocate for Alzheimer’s disease awareness, the outlet noted.

He and the band had also entered the song “Hawaii” in the singing competition Eurovision in hopes of being able to represent Ireland. While he and the band ended up losing the bid to perform the song in the competition, the group is expected to compete at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool next month, the outlet noted.
