Americans were so frustrated with corruption and cronyism that we nominated the two most corrupt candidates in the history of the republic. Today, ABC revealed that Hillary Clinton essentially sold a slot on the International Security Advisory Board (ISAB) to a major donor, Rajiv Fernando. ISAB members must have top-secret security clearances and must be experts in nuclear and security policies. Fernando had no experience in either field. When board members found out who he was, he immediately resigned. Here’s ABC reporting:
Fernando’s history of campaign giving dated back at least to 2003 and was prolific — and almost exclusively to Democrats. He was an early supporter of Hillary Clinton’s 2008 bid for president, giving maximum contributions to her campaign, and to HillPAC, in 2007 and 2008. He also served as a fundraising bundler for Clinton, gathering more than $100,000 from others for her White House bid. After Barack Obama bested Clinton for the 2008 nomination, Fernando became a major fundraiser for the Obama campaign. Prior to his State Department appointment, Fernando had given between $100,000 and $250,000 to the William J. Clinton Foundation, and another $30,000 to a political advocacy group, WomenCount, that indirectly helped Hillary Clinton retire her lingering 2008 campaign debts by renting her campaign email list.
How did he get on ISAB? Hillary hack Cheryl Mills simply placed him there. This week, Hillary Clinton accused Donald Trump of being unfit to handle the nuclear codes. She literally sold access to nuclear secrets to a nobody who funneled her cash.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the aisle, Donald Trump says he won’t divest himself of control of his assets if he’s elected president. He won’t put his assets in a blind trust. This creates massive potential conflict of interest: the Trump brand would be indistinguishable from the Trump presidency, and Trump has already made clear that he has no problem using the bully pulpit to stump for his business interests. He’s already using the power of the Republican nomination bullhorn to attack the judge in his Trump University case. He’s already said that he would target Amazon’s Jeff Bezos for opposing his run – why wouldn’t he do the same to his business competitors as president?
So, who’s more corrupt? Hillary, by a long shot. We don’t know just what Trump would do as president – but it wouldn’t be honest. We do know Hillary. Hillary is the devil we know, and have known on an unfortunately intimate basis for three decades.
But this is all the inevitable result of a big government capable of enriching those who run it – those who seek office will look to use that power. And we’ll keep electing the most corrupt people to high office in the mistaken impression that it takes a corrupt person to dismantle a corrupt system.
