Republican lawmakers demanded on Wednesday that the FBI produce an unclassified record that allegedly contains evidence showing that then-Vice President Joe Biden was involved in a criminal bribery scheme with a foreign national.
Senate Budget Committee Ranking Member Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-KY) released a joint statement saying that the “highly credible” information was obtained from a whistleblower.
“Based on those disclosures, it has come to our attention that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) possess an unclassified FD-1023 form that describes an alleged criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national relating to the exchange of money for policy decisions,” a letter from Comer and Grassley said to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
“It has been alleged that the document includes a precise description of how the alleged criminal scheme was employed as well as its purpose,” the letter continued. “Based on the alleged specificity within the document, it would appear that the DOJ and the FBI have enough information to determine the truth and accuracy of the information contained within it.”
The letter said that it was not clear based on the information they received whether there were ever any investigative steps taken to evaluate the information.
Comer and Grassley said that there was significant public interest in how the FBI handled this information especially since there was “growing concern about the DOJ and the FBI’s track record of allowing political bias to infect their decision-making process, necessitate exacting congressional oversight.”
“The DOJ and the FBI appear to have valuable, verifiable information that you have failed to disclose to the American people,” the letter concluded. “Therefore, Congress will proceed to conduct an independent and objective review of this matter, free from those agencies’ influence.”
Comer subpoenaed the FBI for “all FD-1023 forms, including within any open, closed, or restricted access case files, created or modified in June 2020, containing the term ‘Biden,’ including all accompanying attachments and documents to those FD-1023 forms.”
Grassley, a longtime whistleblower advocate, said, “We believe the FBI possesses an unclassified internal document that includes very serious and detailed allegations implicating the current President of the United States.”
