Members of the Israeli Parliament responded positively to President Donald Trump’s demand that the prosecution of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu be stopped.
In March, the Israeli government unanimously passed a no-confidence motion against Israeli Attorney General Gali Baharfav-Miara, who is prosecuting Netanyahu, alleging corruption. “The advisor almost systematically refuses to appear before the Constitution Committee, ignores the ministers’ requests to her, and does not respond to my own requests,” Justice Minister Yariv Levin wrote. “As Minister of Justice, not to mention what is happening to other ministers, I receive a blatant disregard for my letters.” The attorney general has been urged by former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak — a leader of the Left in Israel who in 2000 reportedly offered the Palestinians 73% of Judea and Samaria, a figure that he extended to 98%, and called for nationwide protests to remove Netanyahu in 2025 — to force Netanyahu’s recusal.
On Wednesday, Trump issued a scathing indictment of the prosecution on Truth Social, declaring:
Bibi and I just went through HELL together, fighting a very tough and brilliant longtime enemy of Israel, Iran, and Bibi could not have been better, sharper, or stronger in his LOVE for the incredible Holy Land. Anybody else would have suffered losses, embarrassment, and chaos! Bibi Netanyahu was a WARRIOR, like perhaps no other Warrior in the History of Israel, and the result was something that nobody thought was possible, a complete elimination of potentially one of the biggest and most powerful Nuclear Weapons anywhere in the World, and it was going to happen, SOON!
We were fighting, literally, for the Survival of Israel, and there is nobody in Israel’s History that fought harder or more competently than Bibi Netanyahu. Despite all of this, I just learned that Bibi has been summoned to Court on Monday for the continuation of this long running, (He has been going through this “Horror Show” since May of 2020 – Unheard of! This is the first time a sitting Israeli Prime Minister has ever been on trial.), politically motivated case, “concerning cigars, a Bugs Bunny doll, and numerous other unfair charges’ in order to do him great harm.”
Such a WITCH HUNT, for a man who has given so much, is unthinkable to me. He deserves much better than this, and so does the State of Israel. Bibi Netanyahu’s trial should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a Pardon given to a Great Hero, who has done so much for the State. Perhaps there is no one that I know who could have worked in better harmony with the President of the United States, ME, than Bibi Netanyahu. It was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it is going to be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu. THIS TRAVESTY OF ‘JUSTICE’ CAN NOT BE ALLOWED!”
Israeli Sports Minister Miki Zohar declared, “President Trump is expressing out loud what many Israeli citizens feel in their hearts. I call to put an end to this unconscionable injustice and personal prosecution, although the cases are collapsing by themselves anyway.”
Simcha Rothman (Religious Zionist Party) responded, “It is certainly the role of the president of the State of Israel, who can put an end to this stupid saga in the most elegant way. If he does not do so, the Knesset can and should do so, but certainly the president of the state holds that authority. … This trial suffers from manufactured charges, disconnection from reality of the prosecution and the judges from continuing the trial during wartime, dealing with trivia and more.”
Israel’s Minister of Communications, Shlomo Karhi, echoed, “I would be happy to see Netanyahu continue to crush the political indictment in court, this show has long since cost us the security of the state.”
Likud’s Moshe Saada wrote: “We are in historic times and writing chapters of history. I am a defense witness in the Netanyahu case. I know the scandalous conduct of the prosecution. You cannot run a country and a war and also have to testify twice a week. I think in a properly functioning judicial system, the trial would be postponed. Anything else is illogical.”
