Many mainstream reviewers refuse to review Matt Walsh’s documentary “What Is a Woman?

However, their shunning hasn’t stopped audiences from giving the film a whopping 97% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes with more than 2,500 reviews, and making it the number one most-watched movie at home on the platform. “What Is a Woman?” is a force that cannot be stopped.

“Finally, someone questioning the madness that we’ve all see[n] unfolding before our eyes over the last 10 years. Walsh asks one simple question and it brings gender ideology down like a house of cards,” one reviewer wrote.

“This is one of the best documentaries to come out in years; I say this as a former liberal,” another said. “The Emperor has no clothes and this documentary exposes that the current obsession with gender is based on lies and half-truths.”

“A really deep and thoughtful approach to the ever complicating topic of gender identity in today’s society, with sprinkles and dashes of humor throughout. It is a must watch for Left leaning individuals who apparently cant seem to take their blinds off from their eyes,” said a third reviewer.

Mainstream reviewers aren’t just taking issue with the content of Walsh’s project, but are rather refusing to engage with or attempt to debunk his claims at all. They replied to email queries with profanity and revulsion, calling the content “transphobic” before even seeing it.

“Unsubscribe. Lose my email. Forget my name,” one reviewer wrote.

“Hard f***ing pass. I won’t give that transphobic bigot a platform on my site,” another said. “Never email me again!”

“Absolutely f***ing not. He’s a bigot and you should be ashamed to be associated with him,” another said. “Have a great weekend!”

“Yeah, I’m not reviewing a film by a bigot,” a fourth chimed in.

As of this publishing, the only official critic review of “What Is a Woman?” comes from Daily Wire contributor Christian Toto. He gave the documentary a 3 out of 4.

“Some won’t accept the documentary’s premise at face value. Others will rage at Walsh’s staid demeanor, knowing the true feelings lurking beneath his mild-mannered style,” Toto wrote.

“What we should all agree on is simple. It can’t be off bounds to dig deeper into the trans conversation. Our children are in play, for starters. The film aggressively pursues this angle, and we see specialists giddy at helping young children begin their ‘transition.’”

And while no mainstream reviewers chimed in, at least one feminist writer who disagrees with Walsh on most other topics admitted that he made some excellent points during “What Is a Woman?

Candace Mercer describes herself as a “progressive activist who has supported LGBT causes, rights and liberation my entire life.” She had entirely positive things to say about the documentary.

“As Walsh confronts the inconsistencies and circular logic of their arguments with relentless application of reason, you can see the expert’s frustration grow and they often become openly angry with his questions,” she writes in her review on Substack. “As the priestly class, they are not used to being contradicted or challenged in a principled manner, it is telling how many want to end their interviews. Walsh is embarrassing them.”

“Walsh may not identify as a feminist, but his film is absolutely a feminist defense of women and children,” Mercer continued. “He is an unlikely hero to take the reins of this movement.”
