President Donald Trump suggested that he’d be willing to take action if New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani ever moved to block Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from doing their jobs: “Well just have to arrest him.”
Trump addressed the issue while touring “Alligator Alcatraz,” a facility in the Florida Everglades that is being restored to house illegal immigrants — and he made it clear that his administration would not tolerate local officials who stood in the way of federal agents attempting to enforce federal laws.
Mamdani, a Queens assemblyman and a self-described Democratic Socialist, recently bested disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) and will be the Democratic candidate — and has referred to both Trump and ICE agents as “fascists” and vowed to fight against Trump on a number of issues, including the administration’s efforts to deport criminal illegal aliens.
Trump’s response was simple: “Well then we’ll have to arrest him. Look, we don’t need a communist in this country, but if we have one, I’m going to be watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation. We send him money, we send him all the things that he needs to run a government, and by the way, they get already, they get about three times what you get, Ron.”
Trump turned to Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and said that per capita, Florida got approximately one-third of what New York got from the federal government.

Trump had previously threatened to withhold federal funding from New York City if Mamdani were elected and then proceeded to oppose federal policy.
“Let’s say this, if he does get in, I’m going to be president and he is going to have to do the right thing, but they’re not getting any money. He’s got to do right thing. It’s shocking that I would have assumed that. I used to say we will never have a socialist in this country. No, but we’ll have a communist. I mean, he’s a communist, he gonna be mayor of New York,” he said.
Border Czar Tom Homan did not appear to be fazed by Mamdani’s threats to block ICE agents, saying, “Game on. We’re coming. He wants to block ICE? We’ll see how that works out for him.”
