<p>China has passed a sweeping national security law that human rights activists are describing as a &#8220;weapon of repression to be used against government critics&#8221; in Hong Kong, as the Chinese Communist Party continues to tighten its grip on the region.</p>
<p>Chinese President Xi Jinping signed into a law on Tuesday a bill banning acts of sedition, subversion, and terrorism, according to the <a href="https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/politics/article/3091241/national-security-law-chinese-president-xi-jinping-signs">South China Morning Post</a>. The National People’s Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC), China’s top legislative body, reportedly passed the legislation in a 162-0 vote on Tuesday morning.</p>
