WATCH: Obama Reveals How He Felt During Trump’s Inauguration, Takes Swipe At POTUS’ Tweeting

By  Amanda Prestigiacomo

During a friendly interview with Prince Harry on Wednesday, former president Barack Obama revealed that he had mixed feelings during the inauguration of President Donald Trump on January 20, adding that he felt a sense of “serenity.” He also took a not-so-veiled swiped at Trump’s “irresponsible” tweeting habits.

“You sat through the inauguration with your game face on, not giving much emotion away — as we all saw. What’s going through your mind?” asked Prince Harry for BBCRadio 4.

Obama said the first thing he thought about was his wife, and how thankful he was for her to be his “partner through that whole process.” The former president described Michelle as “spectacular, funny, a warm person,” and noted that she was a fine first lady, though she was not “naturally inclined to politics.”

“You know, the sense that there was a completion and that we had done the work which preserved our integrity and left us whole and that we hadn’t fundamentally changed, I think was a satisfying feeling which was mixed with all the work that was still undone and concerns about how the country moves forward,” he said.

Obama added, “But overall there was a serenity there, more than I would have expected.”

The former president then threw a jab at Trump, seemingly calling the current president’s tweeting irresponsible and accusing him of spreading fake news. The Standard reports:

The ex-president also appeared to lodge a veiled attack against Mr Trump during the interview as he warned against ‘irresponsible’ use of social media to spread misinformation.”

Asked about fake news, Mr Obama said those in power should take caution when posting messages which could distort people’s understanding of issues and current affairs.

He did not mention Mr Trump, who is a keen Twitter user, by name.
