A neighbor of alleged Paul Pelosi attacker David DePape described the home where he lived as nest of left-wing kooks — a turn from the narrative coming from some Democratic politicians and legacy media outlets.

The 42-year-old reportedly assaulted Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), with a hammer when police arrived at the San Francisco home Friday. The apparent intruder was reportedly demanding to know the speaker’s whereabouts.

A neighbor who wished only to be identified as Trish described DePape’s housemates as “nudist drug addicts” who exhibited “paranoid” and “psychotic” behaviors, a video posted by journalist and former Independent gubernatorial candidate Michael Shellenberger shows. The group’s politics, Trish said, were “left-leaning,” though she said the group did not live out its values.

“I would imagine that they’re more left-leaning, because of their support for the gay community,” she said. “Now I’m not sure what way they lean.”

A reporter noted an LGBT flag outside the home. “Yeah, yeah,” Trish confirmed.

“You know, they are completely unhinged, so I wouldn’t be surprised at all,” she said when asked about any “signs of anti-Semitism.”

“Nothing they believe in aligns with their actions,” Trish added. “So, they’ll say that they’re pro-black lives, and then they’ll call the police on black people. Their actions don’t stand by their words.”

The neighbor also agreed with a reporter’s description of the residents as exhibiting “paranoid” and “psychotic” behavior.

The New York Post also quoted a neighbor named Trish saying those at the home seemed “very left.”

“What I know about the family is that they’re very radical activists,” the woman said. “They seem very left. They are all about the Black Lives Matter movement. Gay pride. But they’re very detached from reality. They have called the cops on several of the neighbors, including us, claiming that we are plotting against them. It’s really weird to see that they are willing to be so aggressive toward somebody else who is also a lefty.”

Public safety and investigative reporter for NBC Bay Area Jaxon Van Derbeken reported Friday that the FBI visited a Berkeley home tied to Pelosi’s alleged attacker.

“The Victorian is dubbed a ‘hippie collective’ by neighbors,” Van Derbeken said, captioning a photo of the home.

A sign in one of the windows reads, “Berkeley Stands United Against Hate,” and another appears to be a hand-written “Black Lives Matter” sign. Outside the home appears to be an LGBT pride and marijuana-themed American flag.

NBC News recently reported that a man at the Berkeley home visited by the FBI said that DePape hadn’t lived there for a decade. The man also declined to speak to the agents, according to the outlet.

Notably, Trish told the media she saw DePape within the last month, or perhaps within the past two weeks.

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) said in a press release issued Friday that the department, along with the FBI and the San Francisco Police, has opened a joint investigation into the break-in at Pelosi’s California home.

“The Speaker was in Washington, D.C. with her protective detail at the time of the overnight, break-in,” the press release continued. “During the California break-in, the Speaker’s husband was assaulted, but he is now recovering.”

Pelosi was hit in the head with a hammer by the intruder and underwent surgery Friday for a fractured skull. He is expected to make a full recovery, a press release from the Speaker said.

“The San Francisco Police Department has the suspect in custody. The motivation for the attack is still under investigation,” the USCP added. “Special Agents with the USCP’s California Field Office quickly arrived on scene, while a team of investigators from the Department’s Threat Assessment Section was simultaneously dispatched from the East Coast to assist the FBI and the San Francisco Police with a joint investigation.”

San Francisco Police Chief William Scott told reporters Friday that the 911 dispatcher who took Mr. Pelosi’s call during the attack had “good instincts” and was able to “read between the lines” when the victim spoke in “code.”

“She knew something more was going on, just in her heart and her intuition, just with her experience,” Scott said, The Daily Wire previously reported. “And that calls for a higher priority than this type of call normally receives. This was a well-being check. And she just knew there was more to it. So, she alerted our officers, she went that extra step … and that led to a quicker response.”
