As someone who grew up in New England and never really engaged in the discussions about illegal immigration, I was indifferent to President Trump’s proposal for a border wall. After moving to California, I couldn’t escape discussions about the issue.
So in an effort to learn more about what exactly is going on at our southern border, I traveled to San Diego for a ride-along with the Border Patrol. What I found was that our border is complicated and currently changing. There isn’t a 30-foot-tall border wall yet, but changes are being made in other ways to better secure the border and prevent illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
After meeting with the men and women whose job it is to defend the border, I realized that it is a difficult and, often times, dangerous task. I left San Diego feeling much different about our border. Watch my trip below:
