Last week, Daily Wire Editor-at-Large Josh Hammer, who frequently opines on issues pertaining to Jewish politics, anti-Semitism, and Israel, joined “Tipping Point With Liz Wheeler” on One America News Network to discuss the news that socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) plans to deploy infamous anti-Semite and “Women’s March” co-founder Linda Sarsour as a campaign surrogate for his 2020 presidential bid.
Wheeler began by pointing out that the goal of a campaign surrogate is to articulate the goals, ideology, and policy initiatives of the political candidate. Wheeler opined that it is “pretty terrifying” for America that a 2020 presidential candidate has employed such an overt anti-Semite, and that it makes no difference that Sanders himself is ethnically Jewish. “It doesn’t matter that he himself is of Jewish heritage,” Wheeler said of Sanders. “The policies that he’s going to be imposing on our nation … if they’re anything like Linda Sarsour’s, then they’re anti-Semitic.”
Hammer responded by excoriating Sanders, as he done in numerous Daily Wire op-eds. Hammer also claimed that Sanders is, as Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro might phrase it, a “JINO”:
You know, in 2016, when Bernie Sanders was challenging Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination, back then he actually got in hot water with even some Jewish Democratic voters for falsifying statistics about the 2014 Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. He totally fabricated numbers … he said that 10,000 Palestinians in Gaza died as a result of the IDF’s military campaign there [and] that number is off by orders of magnitude. So he has gotten in hot water in the past with Jewish Democratic voters, but this really ought to be a step too far.
He is bringing on someone who is the face of the BDS campaign — that is the same BDS campaign that is the number one leading anti-Semitic movement all across the world. [BDS is] on college campuses, across the U.N., and across the European left — Linda Sarsour is the face of that. And as you say, Liz, it makes no difference that Bernie Sanders is Jewish. Bernie Sanders may be ethnically Jewish, but he is, as my boss Ben Shapiro of The Daily Wire might say: He really is a “JINO,” a Jew-in-name-only.
He doesn’t care about Judaism. He cares about leftism and, like so many secularists no matter what [their] purported religion is, Bernie Sanders worships at the altar of the secular state. He’s a leftist, a socialist to his core. That is his religion — his religion is not Judaism.
Wheeler responded by emphasizing the horrific litany of anti-Semitic things Linda Sarsour has said and the anti-Semitic actions she has taken:
Linda Sarsour supports the BDS movement. You talk[ed] about how she pals around with Rasmea Odeh, a convicted murderer in Israel who bombed students — killed students because they were in Israel. This is a friend of Linda Sarsour. So those are two things. Here are some other things.
Linda Sarsour has palled around with Louis Farrakhan. Louis Farrakhan is one of the most notorious anti-Semites who exists in our country today — who calls Jews “evil,” who wants to “take white men down.” Louis Farrakhan is a friend of Linda Sarsour whom she has not disavowed. Bernie Sanders himself, by the way, when we’re talking about views on Jews and anti-Semitism, Bernie Sanders called congresswoman Ilhan Omar and defended her [and] said that he didn’t think that she was an anti-Semite.
