The oppressed feminists over at BuzzFeed came up with a brilliant plan to fight the so-called “period stigma”: collect their own menstrual blood and paint with it!
In one of the most gag-inducing posts to ever be published at the liberal outlet (a truly astounding feat), two BuzzFeed employees, Chantel Houston and Devin Lytle, videotape a period blood paint session, adding their own anti-Trump-twist, of course.
Sarah Levy, a feminist who infamously painted a portrait of Donald Trump with her own period blood, directs the two BuzzFeed feminists on how to paint with the blood of their shed uterus lining. “[Levy’s] inspiration stemmed from Trump’s comment about Megan Kelly having blood coming out of all parts of her body. Sarah took it as a jab towards women for menstruating and wanted to call it out through humor and art,” notes BuzzFeed.
After the women discuss the experience of using a menstrual cup in order to collect the blood, they each open up a mason jar full of their own collection. They both almost vomit from the smell alone.
Then the painting begins: Houston paints a bowl of cookies and Lytle decides on a glass of a wine and the moon because all women are actually witches, she jokes.
“I was immediately empowered,” says Houston.
The entire scene is nearly unwatchable.
After their paintings are complete, the women display them in an art gallery of sorts to BuzzFeed coworkers.
“I was a little shocked when some female coworkers were like, ‘ew,'” explains Lytle. (How she was shocked that women weren’t into the painting composed of her blood remains a mystery.) But Lytle, being the good feminist that she is, says she told such dissenters why it was actually empowering; and like the good drones that her coworkers are, they quickly agreed.
“By the end of the experience, both ladies felt super empowered and motivated to inspire other people to break the stigma that periods are disgusting,” celebrates BuzzFeed.
