The ESPN studios are usually filled with stats, stories, and opinions, but on Thursday during NFL Live, the set was filled with tears as host Dan Orlovsky’s son, Madden, delivered an inspiring message for World Autism Awareness Day.
The 14-year-old, who has autism, appeared against a backdrop of his artwork and spoke about his love for sports and his family.
“I want to tell this to Hunter, Nolen, Lennon, and Mom if they’re watching this. Mom, I love you. Hunter, you’re my favorite twin. Noah, I do like you and Lennon, you’re a good sister,” Madden said.

The moment moved Orlovsky to tears.
“Are you crying? Madden asked his father.
“Yeah, because I love you,” he told his son.
Madden has appeared on the show before, including during last year’s World Autism Awareness Day broadcast, where he was introduced as the “NFL Live resident artist.”
ESPN host Laura Rutledge praised Madden during the segment.
“I just want to tell you how inspiring you are to so many people,” she said. “There’s a lot of people watching right now that may think they can’t do something like this, or they can’t go on TV and talk and sing, and you’re up here being absolutely awesome.”
During the appearance, Madden shared some of his favorite things, including his devotion to the Philadelphia Eagles and his favorite foods.
“I have great artwork, great coloring, great handwriting,” Madden explained. “I love other things. I love playing video games. I love the Eagles … I love eating pizza, cheeseburgers, french fries, hot dogs, and chicken nuggets.”
The Eagles super fan got a big surprise during his appearance when his favorite player, wide receiver Devonta Smith, and the Eagles Autism Foundation surprised him with a gift basket full and a note from the Eagles, which Madden read out loud:

According to Autism Speaks, 1 in 31 children is diagnosed with the neurodevelopmental condition. Madden’s enthusiasm stole the show and swelled the hearts of viewers as he raised awareness for kids like him.
