President Trump’s son Eric Trump appeared on “Fox & Friends” Wednesday morning to address his father’s ongoing public feud with the “Squad” of far-left Democratic freshman congresswomen — Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Ilhan Omar (MN), Rashida Tlaib (MI), and Ayanna Pressley (MA).
His father’s controversial statement urging leftist Democratic critics of the country to “go back” to where they came from, said Eric, captures the sentiment of a lot of Americans about those who repeatedly tear down the country. In the end, he argued, the rebuke of his father for attacking The Squad is about the Democratic Party having “no message” and disparaging patriotism at every turn.
On Tuesday, in a process that inolved its own controversies, the Democrat-controlled House voted 240-187 to officially condemn Trump’s comments directed at the so-called “Squad,” despite Democrats admitting that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s rebuke of Trump for his “racist comments” broke House rules forbidding accusing the president of racism or other personal insults.
But as his son’s comments on Fox Wednesday makes clear, the Democrats’ official rebuke clearly hasn’t slowed Team Trump’s full-scale campaign to simultaneously slam the radical freshmen representatives and portray them as the new faces of the Democratic Party.
“I describe ‘The Squad’ as an absolute clownshow,” Eric told Fox (video below). “Listen, back up two weeks: You had Kamala Harris call Biden a racist. Then all of a sudden you had ‘The Squad’ call Pelosi a racist. Then all of a sudden they ask my father, ‘Is Pelosi a racist?’ No, of course, she’s not racist. It’s just a term they like to use. Two nights later [Pelosi’s] calling my father [a racist]. This is what’s happening to the [Democratic Party], and it’s totally feeding into our hand. And I hope they keep on doing it because they’re not getting anything done. They throw out a word if anyone thinks differently than them, if anyone looks different than them, if anyone acts different, if anyone has different beliefs or thoughts…”
“They have no message,” he stressed, arguing that all the name-calling is “not going to work” in the face of the thriving economy. The group of radical Democrats, he said, is “the most hate-filled group,” cheering on those storming ICE offices and tearing down American flags and “saying anti-Semitic things every day.”
Asked specifically about his father’s tweets (below), which even some Republicans have criticized, Eric said he “loved” his point: “‘If you don’t love our country, get out, leave,'” he said, paraphrasing his father. “We have it so great in America. … We are blessed to live in this country. And if you’re not happy about it, I like his message: Leave.”
The battle between Trump and The Squad ramped up last week when Trump came to the defense of Pelosi after Ocasio-Cortez suggested that the speaker was targeting her and her fellow freshmen because they were “women of color.”
“When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood,” Ocasio-Cortez told The Washington Post Wednesday in reference to Pelosi criticizing comments by the Squad. “But the persistent singling out . . . it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful . . . the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color.”
“I deal with Nancy Pelosi a lot, and we go back and forth and it’s fine, but I think that a group of people is being very disrespectful to her,” Trump said in response. “I’ll tell you something about Nancy Pelosi, she is not a racist, and for them to call her a racist is a disgrace.”
Trump ratcheted up the rhetoric over the weekend, tweeting: “So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”
For that, Pelosi and her fellow Democrats voted Tuesday to condemn his “racist comments,” claiming they “have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color.”
