No one mistakes Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) for a Rhodes Scholar, given what she’s said in the past, but during a press conference Monday, she lowered the bar to the ground. Speaking of President Trump’s friendliness with Russian President Vladimir Putin, she said:
“The fact that he is wrapping his arms around Putin, while Putin is continuing to advance into [pause] Korea. I think that he is leading himself into that kind of position where folks will begin to ask: ‘What are we going to do?’ and the answer is going to be, eventually, we’ve got to do something about him.”
Possibly the best part of Rep. Waters’ gaffe is that it wasn’t a verbal stumble. She took a pause, looked back, gestured toward Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), then said “Korea” instead of “Crimea.”
It took something truly special, but someone finally topped Obama’s infamous “57 states” remark.
Congratulations, Rep. Waters. Your award is in the mail.
