That settles it. Former Vice President Joe Biden should hang up his hat for the 2020 presidential race because a focus group of just six people on CNN said he should.
Indeed, the network that colluded with Hillary Clinton’s campaign against Bernie Sanders held a focus group of supposedly random people that all just-so-happened to reject Biden as a 2020 candidate despite him being a leading contender in every poll.
The Democratic voters provided by CNN largely rejected the more centrist Biden for not being left-wing enough.
“I think we need a bold, strong leadership, and you’ll find that in the progressives,” said Democratic voter Carol Evans during the early morning segment.
Another member, Michael Milisits, said that Hillary Clinton’s loss in 2016 proves that the Democratic Party should not run another pragmatic centrist.
“We had the standard-bearer for the kind of pragmatic centrist candidate in Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Donald Trump is now president,” said Milisits. “He is not your average political candidate, so we really need to try to think outside the box because, you know, it seems like the dude is made of rubber. Anything you throw at him just bounces off, there’s nothing that sticks.”
When CNN host Alisyn Camerota asked if anyone on the (six-member) panel wanted Biden to enter the 2020 race, nobody raised their hand.
“His time is done,” Carol Evans said.
Democrat Russel Banks said that Biden represents the “good old boy” politics of the past that will not unite the party. “I will be honest. He was riding the Obama wave and I thought he was a person that would unite the party, but to be honest, Sen. Biden really comes from kind of the good old boy politics of the past,” he said.
Democrat Owen Evans said the the party needs some new blood and a “new economy” to move forward. “I don’t think Joe Biden represents that new thing that we need. We need a new economy, we need new politics and we need someone different,” he said.
According to The Hill, Biden leads the polls ahead of all his 13 competitors primarily due to his name recognition from the Obama administration. Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) trails closely behind him.
“Former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) are leading the rest of the Democratic presidential primary field by double digits, according to a new poll released Tuesday by Morning Consult,” reports the outlet. “Biden, who has yet to announce whether he will enter the 2020 race, leads the pack with 31 percent, the survey found. Coming in a close second is Sanders, with 27 percent support among Democratic primary voters.”
“The poll results signal that, if Biden enters the race, he’s likely to emerge as an early front-runner in an otherwise crowded primary contest,” the report continued. “It also suggests that Sanders, who announced his second bid for the White House last month, has early momentum among the very voters he’ll need to court if he hopes to win the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020.”
The first Democratic Party presidential debate will be held in June.
