The latest high-profile Democrat to announce his 2020 presidential bid has joined all other major Democratic candidates’ radical support for abortion-till-birth.
On Monday, failed Senate candidate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke endorsed the murder of unborn babies in the womb during the third trimester of pregnancy, which is from 28 weeks until birth, because he “trusts” women.
“Are you for third-trimester abortions? Are you going to protect the lives of third-trimester babies?” asked a female Cleveland campaign event attendee.
“Because, you know, there’s really not a medical necessity for (late-term) abortion — it’s not a medical emergency procedure — because typically third-trimester abortions take up to three days to have. So, in that sense, if there was an emergency, the doctors would just do a [caesarian]-section, and you don’t have to kill the baby in that essence,” she explained. “So, are you for or against third-trimester abortions?”
The questioner’s synopsis of the late-term abortions not ever being a medical necessity has been backed up by medical professionals, including former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino.
“The question is about abortion and reproductive rights. And, my answer to you is, that should be a decision the woman makes. I trust her,” answered O’Rourke, sticking to the pro-abortion talking points. “So that’s my answer.”
The crowd broke out in rabid applause for the Democrat’s answer. But most of the country is not on board with such a radical abortion position. NPR reported in June that public support for abortion in the third trimester is at only 13%, per Gallup polling:
Gallup finds that 60 percent of Americans believe abortion generally should be legal during the first three months of pregnancy, known as the first trimester. That support drops by more than half, to 28 percent, once a pregnancy reaches the second trimester; it falls to 13 percent in the third trimester, at which point the fetus is often viable with medical support.
O’Rourke has tried his best to avoid specifics with regard to hot-button issues like abortion, but as noted by Fox News, the Democrat “co-sponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act when he was a Texas congressman in 2017 — a bill that would have lifted most state restrictions on abortion, including waiting periods.”
Though the media-beloved candidate has taken about as radical a position as one can take with regard to the murder of the unborn, he’s in lockstep with his fellow Democrats. Every other major Democrat candidate has backed abortion until the moment of birth, including Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
As noted by Fox News, all Democratic 2020 presidential hopefuls in the Senate effectively went on record as pro-infanticide by voting down the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act proposed by Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE). The bill would force doctors to treat born-alive infants from botched abortions with full medical care, instead of letting them die.
In the same perspective, sitting Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia recently endorsed infanticide during a radio interview in January. “When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of the mother, with the consent of physicians, more than one physician by the way, and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus which is non-viable,” said Northam. “So in this particular example, if the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother.”
