Justin Fairfax, the Democrat lieutenant governor of Virginia, deserves the presumption of innocence after being accused of sexual assault, even if that same presumption was not given to Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
But we must continue to point out the clear bias employed by media outlets when it comes to the allegations against these two individuals. Yesterday, The Daily Wire reported on Fairfax’s denial of the allegations against him and his statement about how The Washington Post decided not to run the accusation. Fairfax said:
The Post carefully investigated the claim for several months. After being presented with facts consistent with the Lt. Governor’s denial of the allegation, the absence of evidence corroborating the allegation, and significant red flags and inconsistencies within the allegation, the Post made the considered decision not to publish the story.
Notice that all of these issues existed with the allegations against Kavanaugh, yet the Post and other media outlets plastered those allegations everywhere as if they were true, all while chanting “Believe Women!”
Now the Post is pushing back on Fairfax’s claim that there were “significant red flags and inconsistencies within the allegation.”
“Fairfax and the woman told different versions of what happened in the hotel room with no one else present. The Washington Post could not find anyone who could corroborate either version. The Post did not find ‘significant red flags and inconsistencies within the allegations,’ as the Fairfax statement incorrectly said,” the Post reported.
This means the Post decided not to publish the accusations simply because of the differing accounts, something the outlet doesn’t do when the allegations are against a Republican or male college student.
For example, in October 2014, the Post breathlessly recounted the claims of Emma Sulkowicz, better known as “Mattress Girl.” The Post didn’t attempt to contact the man Sulkowicz accused, instead referring to her as a “survivor” and allowing her to smear him as a “rapist.” Had they contacted him, they would have also heard “different versions” of the story.
The Post did use this opportunity to tell the story of Fairfax’s accuser. She remembers exactly when and where the alleged assault took place. Kavanaugh’s accuser did not, yet her story was taken at face value. Fairfax’s accuser, like Kavanaugh’s accusers, told no one about her alleged assault at the time it occurred. Fairfax’s accuser apparently told no one until she spoke to the Post. Kavanaugh’s first accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, claims she told her therapist about the accusation some 30 years after it happened during a fight with her husband over a second front door. The second front door had already been placed when this alleged issue was discussed – and the door was actually part of a potentially illegal sublet used by Google interns. Kavanaugh’s other accusers told no one until they contacted the press when he was about to be confirmed and Ford needed some backup.
Fairfax spoke to the press on Monday about the accusations and the Post’s decision to now tell the woman’s story when it refused to do so a year ago.
“That they’d run a story on an uncorroborated allegation from 15 years ago tells you what the smear is all about,” Fairfax said.
The “smear” against Kavanaugh was due to uncorroborated allegations from more than 30 years ago.
Democrats and left-wing media will get another chance to show just how biased they are, because Fairfax’s accuser has hired Ford’s legal team. Will these lawyers still be heroes to the Left as they were when they went up against Kavanaugh?
