Eastern Michigan University (EMU) canned its production of “The Vagina Monologues” because of its lack of “diversity and inclusion.” Apparently, not all women have vaginas.
The school’s Women’s Resource Center (WRC) informed students via email that, following an evaluation of survey responses about the production, “The Vagina Monologues” was canceled.
“Survey respondents opposing the production consistently indicated they were concerned that the play centers on cisgender women, that the play’s version of feminism excludes some women, including trans women, and that overall, ‘The Vagina Monologue’ lacks diversity and inclusion,” reports Ann Arbor News.
In the email, the WRC asked if “The Vagina Monologues,” which was penned in 1994 by activist Eve Ensler, is “still relevant” to modern feminists:
“This created a need to ask the question: Do we still need ‘The Vagina Monologues?’ And, are ‘The Vagina Monologues’ still relevant to next-generation feminists?”
A statement from the center emphasized their goal of “recognizing and celebrating the diverse representations of women” — which now includes biological males.
“We feel that making this decision is in line with the WRC mission of recognizing and celebrating the diverse representations of women on campus along with the overall mission of the Department of Diversity and Community Involvement, in which the WRC is housed, of supporting and empowering minoritized students and challenging systems and structures that perpetuate inequities,” says the statement.
“We truly believe that it is important to center our minoritized students and this decision is in line with this mission driven value,” the WRC added.
As noted by FaithWire, EMU is not the first school to scrap the somehow politically incorrect production; both American University and Mount Holyoke College canned the play: “American University instead created a new play called ‘Breaking Ground Monologues’ to ‘broaden the focus from specifically female genitalia to multiple identities and bodies’ and Mount Holyoke College decided to scrap its annual performance of the production.”
Twitter erupted with some thoughts on the matter, most from notable conservatives.
“Trans ideology is destroying feminism faster than any imaginary Patriarchy,” wrote bestselling author and Daily Wire contributor DC McAllister.
“It must be fun being on the Left cause one day you can claim to be the side of science and the next you can do this,” said Campus Reform’s Cabot Phillips.
CRTV’s Allie Beth Stuckey noted, “Leftism will eventually eat itself and all conservatives have to do is sit back & watch.”
“My alma mater, Mount Holyoke, did this when I was a freshman,” said The Daily Wire’s Kassy Dillon. “Honestly, I’m not even mad. 1. It’s awful. 2. It’s hilarious watching the Left eat itself.”
“This is wokeception,” author of “The Immoral Majority” Ben Howe succinctly put it.
“I’m not going to say how I know, but I believe a fairly high percentage of them do,” joked Rochester radio host Bob Lonsberry.
“Sorry, but you’ve run the snark reservoir completely dry at this point. Carry on,” mocked Hotair’s Jazz Shaw.
Total Sorority Move director Veronica Ruckh questioned why everything must be so-called “inclusive” to everyone or it’s banished. “Why are we denying valuable content to a large group of people just because not everyone can relate to it?” she asked.
“Not all content is created in a way that it’s relatable to all people. That doesn’t make it any less relatable to the people it helps. I don’t see it as exclusionary to create what you know,” she said in a series of tweets. “MOST of mainstream media directed at women discusses the perils of dating men. Just because lesbians exist doesn’t mean that content aimed at straight women shouldn’t exist.”
“Not every story told is going to be your story. Not every story told CAN be everyone’s story. That doesn’t mean they aren’t worth telling. That means they’re authentic to the creators and I don’t think we should thwart authenticity for the sake of inclusion,” she added.
