As part of its “inclusive language” policy, a university in the United Kingdom passed a guidance that bans several phrases from being said on campus. According to The Telegraph, Cardiff Metropolitan University declared that only “gender-neutral” terms should be utilized on campus. Some of the words that are banned include but are not limited to: “manpower,” forefathers,” “mankind,” and “sportsmanship.” A student who utilizes such words could violate the school’s harassment policy, resulting in disciplinary actions against them.
Here is the list the university provided from its Code of Practice on using Inclusive Language:
Forefathers – Ancestors, forebears
Gentleman’s agreement – Unwritten agreement, agreement based on trust
Girls (for adults) – women
Housewife – Shopper, consumer, homemaker (depends on context)
Manpower – Human resources, labour force, staff, personnel, workers, workforce
Man or mankind – Humanity, humankind, human race, people
Man-made – Artificial, manufactured, synthetic
Man in the street, common man – Average/ordinary/typical citizen/person
Right-hand man – Chief assistant
Sportsmanship – Fairmess, good humour, sense of fair play
Jillian Kay Melchior of Heat Street said that Cardiff Metropolitan University is not the only British university that implemented these “inclusive language” policies and that many universities in the United States have done the same thing. For example, Princeton University banned the word “man” last August in an attempt to create more inclusive language.
Once again, the left is suppressing freedom of speech in order to create their dystopian society. Once they create policies that police one’s speech, then it will justify acting in a manner to punish those who fall outside the reservation. Social justice, in actuality, represents a new manifestation of leftist fascism. Ironically, these are the same “freedom fighters” who are expressing moral outrage at President Trump.
Projection much?
