On Thursday night, late night host Stephen Colbert, whose leftist bona fides were established long ago, mocked Elon Musk after Musk tweeted a video of himself entering Twitter headquarters.

Musk took over Twitter on Friday, firing leftist CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and Vijaya Gadde, head of legal policy, trust, and safety.

“This week, Elon Musk announced that he is going to buy Twitter and the deal will be final by tomorrow, right,” Colbert began. “In anticipation of the takeover Musk changed his Twitter bio to ‘Chief Twit.’”

“Not bad. Not too bad,” Colbert continued. “Not too bad; I would have gone with ‘Twit for Rent.’”

Then Colbert started his mockery of Musk: “Musk also posted this tweet: ‘Entering Twitter HQ — let that sink in!’ alongside a video of him walking into the building holding a sink.”

“Get it? He wanted to visualize a pun. Let me try!” Colbert declared.

Holding up a swinging hinge, Colbert taunted, “Elon, you’re clearly unhinged.” He then held up a large screw as he mocked, “You have a screw loose. You have a screw loose.”

Colbert brandished a plastic bag filled with nuts. “You’re nuts! You’re nuts!” Holding up a watch, he continued, “And, frankly, hard to watch, since you’re a tool (holding up hammer) of Russian (holding up a bottle of Russian salad dressing) prop— prop— prop— prop-a-gander (holding up a picture of a goose). You okay? That bit almost killed our stage manager, Mark over there.”

“I look forward to Twitter on his first bad day as CEO. ‘Our stock is in the toilet!’” Colbert jeered.

In another lame attempt at comedy in June, Colbert mocked the Supreme Court’s recent decision in the case of the high school football coach who prayed on the field.

He got roasted.

“If the Supreme Court is going to allow prayer in the middle of a high school football field, they should allow high school football games in the middle of a church,” Colbert taunted.

Colbert was referencing the Court’s decision in Kennedy v. Bremerton School District, which revolved around Joseph Kennedy, the Washington state public high school football coach who was placed on administrative leave by the school district and banned from participating in the football program for praying on the field after games.

Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote in the majority opinion, “Here, a government entity sought to punish an individual for engaging in a brief, quiet, personal religious observance doubly protected by the Free Exercise and Free Speech Clauses of the First Amendment. And the only meaningful justification the government offered for its reprisal rested on a mistaken view that it had a duty to ferret out and suppress. Religious observances even as it allows comparable secular speech. The Constitution neither mandates nor tolerates that kind of discrimination.”

“Kennedy’s private religious exercise did not come close to crossing any line one might imagine separating protected private expression from impermissible government coercion,” Gorsuch added.

Colbert’s tweet engendered derision on social media as his supposed comedic genius got dragged.

Dan McLaughlin of National Review: “I miss comedy that wasn’t just college sophomores thinking they just discovered arguing.”

David Harsanyi of The Federalist: “Gold. You can understand now why they give this guy $15 million a year.”

Radio host Steve Deace: “Alexa, show me a dumb*** attempting to connect things that literally have nothing to do with each other whatsoever, which will then prove his dumb*** audience nodding in approval is even dumber than he is.”
