Two of the men who moved to tackle an alleged shooter at Wednesday’s Super Bowl festivities in Kansas City spoke out on Thursday, saying that when they heard someone call for help, they “didn’t hesitate.”
Paul Contreras said that he first jumped into action when he heard someone else in the crowd calling for someone to stop a man who appeared to be trying to run away. “I’m right here and I just — I didn’t think about it, a reaction, I didn’t hesitate, it was just do it. So I went to go tackle him and another gentleman did the same thing.”

“He got close to me, I got the right angle on him, and I hit him from behind. And when I hit him from behind, I either jarred the gun out of his hand or out of his sleeve because as I’m taking him down to the ground, I saw the gun on the ground,” Contreras continued, the New York Post reported.
The alleged gunman kept fighting to get back up, Contreras said, but he and the other bystanders who jumped in to help were able to hold him down.
Trey Filter of Wichita, Kansas, was another who sprang into action when he heard calls for help. He told the hosts of “Good Morning America” on Thursday that initially he had just been hoping that the person he had tackled was the right person.

“There was a lot of commotion, I could definitely tell that someone was being chased,” Filter explained. “Couldn’t see much but heard ‘Get him,’ saw a flash next to me and I remember I jumped and remember thinking, ‘I hope this is who they were talking about.'”

“We were pretty elated once we knew we had him. They started yelling, ‘There’s a gun, there’s a gun,’ so we were pretty steadfast in holding him down there,” he added.
One person was killed and more than 20 more were injured in the shooting, and several people were taken into custody at the scene.
