<p>President Donald Trump signaled on Wednesday that he would be open to a proposal mentioned by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk — a &#8220;dividend&#8221; paid directly to the taxpayers from the money saved by the Department Of Government Efficiency (DOGE) project.</p>
<p>The conversation began with a proposal from Azoria Investment Firm CEO James Fishback, who floated the idea in an X post on Tuesday based on the plan for DOGE to target $2 trillion in total savings by July 2026.</p>
<p>Fishback suggested they take 2o% of that — $4 billion — and return it to the people via a &#8220;DOGE dividend&#8221; paid out to the approximately 79 million households who &#8220;will be net payers of federal income tax.&#8221;</p>
<p>Such a plan, Fishback said, &#8220;compensates American taxpayers for the egregious misuse and abuse of their hard-earned tax dollars that DOGE has uncovered&#8221; and &#8220;works to restore public trust between taxpayers and their government, making good on this social contract and increasing tax morale.&#8221;</p>
<p>Based on the sheer volume of waste DOGE is expected to uncover, Fishback argued it was the perfect time and opportunity for the federal government to &#8220;right the wrong&#8221; done to American taxpayers.</p>

<p>Musk responded to Fishback&#8217;s post, saying, &#8220;Will check with the President.&#8221;</p>

<p>When asked about the possibility that his administration could move forward with such a plan, Trump seemed more than amenable to the idea.</p>
<p>&#8220;I love it!&#8221; Trump said to reporters. &#8220;A 20% dividend, so to speak, for the money that we&#8217;re saving by going after the waste and fraud and abuse and all the other things that are happening. I think it&#8217;s a great idea.&#8221;</p>
<p>When asked how much money he thought DOGE could potentially save, he shrugged. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know, it could be a lot. It&#8217;s 20%, it would give back a lot of money to the taxpayer.&#8221;</p>
