<p>Former President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he &#8220;wanted to be elegant&#8221; during his debate against Vice President Kamala Harris last week, but he now regrets not &#8220;going after&#8221; ABC News moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis.</p>
<p>Trump appeared on Fox News&#8217;s late-night show &#8220;<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/trump-says-regrets-not-going-after-abc-moderators-during-debate" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gutfeld!</a>&#8221; where he was asked about the legacy media&#8217;s bias against him. The Republican nominee pointed to the ABC debate and the moderators&#8217; numerous fact-checks against him as an example of the media treating him unfairly.</p>
<p>&#8220;I walked off that stage and thought I had the best debate, and I was very unfairly treated by the anchor. I&#8217;m not fans of those guys anymore, and you know, his hair was better five years ago,&#8221; Trump said referring to Muir.</p>
<p>Trump mentioned being fact-checked by Muir on rising crime rates, saying, &#8220;It turned out to be a false attack.&#8221; Muir cited FBI crime statistics to push back on Trump&#8217;s statement that crime rates across the country are rising. A DOJ report <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/09/13/us-news/violent-crime-has-increased-doj-report-says-after-david-muir-disputed-trumps-claim-that-crime-is-through-the-roof/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> just days after the debate, however, supported Trump&#8217;s claims, revealing that violent crime has spiked under the Biden-Harris administration.</p>
<p>Trump added that the moderators said nothing when Harris repeated the Left-wing lie about Trump&#8217;s Charlottesville comments.</p>
<p>&#8220;They didn&#8217;t correct her once, and they corrected me [on] everything I said practically — I think nine times or 11 times,&#8221; Trump said.</p>

<p>Conservatives blasted the ABC News moderators during and after the debate, arguing that the fact-checks on Trump and none on Harris put the former president in an impossible-to-win fight.</p>
<p>The former president argued that in the days following the debate, more people realized that it &#8220;was all word salad&#8221; from Harris, adding that no matter how well he debated, the legacy media would claim that Trump &#8220;was nothing special.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I had people telling me that I&#8217;m wrong about things when I&#8217;m totally right. I was right about just about all of that stuff, and they were correcting me,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And I think my only regret is that I wanted to be elegant, and I didn&#8217;t want to go after the anchors. I wish I did, in a way.&#8221;</p>
