Former President Donald Trump blasted President Joe Biden during a Saturday campaign rally in Claremont, New Hampshire, saying Chinese President Xi Jinping will be greeted with a “feeble and compromised” president during a meeting this week.
Trump, the GOP frontrunner, blasted Biden’s foreign policy and said the world has become less safe during the current administration. He called out Biden’s “weakness,” which he said Xi would be able to exploit. Biden is expected to meet with Xi on Wednesday during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco, California.
“Under Biden, our adversaries see the weakness and foolishness of America’s leaders,” Trump said, according to The Post Millennial. “When President Xi sits across the table from Crooked Joe, as he will Wednesday in San Francisco, he will see a feeble and compromised politician who can be humiliated and steamrolled.”
“No one respects or fears this administration — and it’s leading to danger, death, destruction, war, chaos, and bedlam all over the world,” Trump added.
Trump told the crowd that if they wanted to avoid a third world war – which he says has “never been closer” than under Biden – their choice in the election was “simple,” touting his foreign policy record as president. He said the country was “respected by everyone” during his term and reiterated his warning to America’s adversaries that if they “spill a drop of American blood, we spill a gallon” of theirs.
“So whether you are a Democrat, Republican or independent, if you don’t want your sons and daughters drafted to fight and die in distant foreign lands, if you don’t want your nation wrecked, if you don’t want your economy destroyed, if you don’t want American blood and American treasure squandered in a needless global war, then your choice in this election is simple: you must vote for President Donald J. Trump.”
According to a report from the Associated Press, the details of the Biden-Xi meeting – which will be on the sidelines of the APEC summit in San Francisco – are still being hashed out. This is the first time Xi will make his way to the U.S. in six years.
“Chinese officials will want to project to their domestic audience that Xi is received by Biden with dignity and respect,” director of the John L. Thornton China Center at the Brookings Institute Ryan Hass told the AP.
Potential topics of discussion between Biden and Xi include increased Chinese aggression toward Taiwan and Xi Jinping’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, all topics U.S. officials have expressed concern about in recent weeks, CBS News reported in late October.
The last time Biden met in person with Xi was a year ago while in Bali, Indonesia, at the G20 Summit. Those talks lasted nearly three hours, the AP reported.
Trump went after Biden’s foreign policy last month in a speech to the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas, Nevada: “To every American who is terrified that Joe Biden’s catastrophic weakness will bring our country to ruin … as your president, I will restore peace through strength on the earth.”
