The president of South Korea is warning officials in the United States of the possibility of a “Hamas-style&#8221; attack from North Korea. 
In a meeting on Sunday, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol told United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin that both the U.S. and South Korea face the possibility of a brutal attack from North Korea similar to what Israel experienced on October 7 at the hands of Hamas terrorists, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/yoon-warns-south-korea-united-states-must-be-ready-hamas-style-surprise-attack-north-korea" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. 
The South Korean president called for &#8220;a vigilant South Korea-US combined defense posture capable of promptly and decisively retaliating against any provocations from North Korea, including surprise attacks resembling Hamas-style tactics due to its miscalculation,&#8221; according to Yoon&#8217;s spokesman, Lee Do-woon.

To help thwart a potential attack, South Korean officials are discussing suspending a 2018 inter-Korean military agreement made by North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un and former liberal South Korean President Moon Jae-in, the Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/south-korea-us-austin-north-korea-nuclear-96d8d4623db45040f3449266695f8410" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a>. The agreement in question created no-fly and buffer zones along various land and sea borders. Suspending it would allow the South to increase surveillance capabilities on the North. Secretary Austin reportedly said he would work with South Korean National Defense Minister Shin Won-sik on the possibility of suspending the agreement. 
During Austin’s visit to Seoul for annual security talks, Yoon also expressed his belief that North Korea has been involved “directly and indirectly” in the conflict in Israel and the war between Russia and Ukraine, according to the AP. 
Previously, South Korean officials <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/11/13/south-korea-us-austin-north-korea-nuclear/b1662616-8202-11ee-924c-6e6807155e36_story.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">have said</a> that Hamas may have used North Korean-made munitions – including rocket-propelled grenades – during its massacre of Israelis last month. According to the AP, Kim is potentially considering selling weapons to other terror groups in the Middle East.

Earlier this month, South Korean officials said that the North had sent Russia rifles, rocket launchers, short-range ballistic missiles, and anti-tank missiles for its war against Ukraine. The news came on the heels of a visit Kim Kong-un made to Russia in September, where the two <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kim-jong-un-putin-discuss-military-cooperation-space-tech-and-ukraine-war-at-russian-summit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discussed</a> topics including Ukraine, space technology, and the potential for military cooperation. 
On Sunday, Austin told Yoon of President Joe Biden’s hopes to continue strengthening the alliance between the U.S. and South Korea, and on Monday, the two countries updated a security agreement to better respond to nuclear and missile threats from North Korea, according to the AP. Also agreed upon during the security talks was a plan between South Korea, the U.S., and Japan to improve real-time information-sharing on missile threats.

Former President Donald Trump blasted President Joe Biden during a Saturday campaign rally in Claremont, New Hampshire, saying Chinese President Xi Jinping will be greeted with a “feeble and compromised” president during a meeting this week. 
Trump, the GOP frontrunner, blasted Biden’s foreign policy and said the world has become less safe during the current administration. He called out Biden’s “weakness,” which he said Xi would be able to exploit. Biden is expected to meet with Xi on Wednesday during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco, California. 
&#8220;Under Biden, our adversaries see the weakness and foolishness of America’s leaders,” Trump <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-president-trump-pledges-to-end-ukraine-war-before-even-taking-office" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, according to The Post Millennial. “When President Xi sits across the table from Crooked Joe, as he will Wednesday in San Francisco, he will see a feeble and compromised politician who can be humiliated and steamrolled.&#8221;

Potential topics of discussion between Biden and Xi include increased Chinese aggression toward Taiwan and Xi Jinping’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, all topics U.S. officials have expressed concern about in recent weeks, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/biden-xi-meeting-san-francisco-apec-summit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> in late October.
The last time Biden met in person with Xi was a year ago while in Bali, Indonesia, at the G20 Summit. Those talks lasted nearly three hours, the AP reported.

As retail theft soars in Washington, D.C., one CVS store is taking drastic measures to prevent its stock of toilet paper and other products from being stolen. 
Instead of seeing packages of toilet paper on the shelf, at a CVS on H Street NE in the nation’s capital, you will only find framed photos of the product. The move comes in response to a spike in theft at the store, particularly among the homeless population, according to a <a href="https://wtop.com/dc/2023/10/northeast-cvs-only-has-photos-of-paper-products-on-shelves-due-to-theft/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from WTOP News. 
“It seems to be a case that people don’t care about laws or respect that anymore,” a tourist told the outlet. “In the United Kingdom, we are seeing shops closing down because they’re losing so much money from people shoplifting, which is obviously having an impact on the economy in general.”
Sources told WTOP that homeless people had been entering the store and stealing toilet paper and other products, prompting it to remove items from display. To get the products for purchase, shoppers need to press a button for assistance &#8211; something that&#8217;s becoming more common across the country, especially in Democrat-run cities.

In 2023, there were roughly 4,922 homeless people in D.C., an 11.6% increase from 2022, according to the annual Point-in-Time count <a href="https://dcist.com/story/23/05/05/dc-homelessness-increase-2023-pit-count/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> in May.  
According to a recent <a href="https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/dc/cvs-thefts-columbia-heights-dc/65-1490b69c-abc1-46ea-887f-ce317f01ae16" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from WUSA9, thieves ransack a separate CVS location in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of D.C. nearly every day. Sources told the outlet that people leave the store with boxes of stolen goods daily, with staff saying that thieves will specifically target the store when it gets new shipments, stealing the product before it&#8217;s put out for sale. The result: near-empty shelves. 
“I think it’s enforcement and the infractions are not tough,&#8221; a woman who recently bought a home near the store told the outlet. &#8220;A lot of times, it’s just a slap on the hand.&#8221; She also said she was reconsidering moving to the area, saying, &#8220;It&#8217;s getting worse. People get killed in front of the Metro, stores are robbed every single day. You can’t even find food.&#8221;

According to Fox Business, retail theft in the nation’s capital <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/retail/washington-dc-cvs-only-shows-pictures-toilet-paper-products-rising-theft" target="_blank" rel="noopener">is up 68%</a> over 2022, with more than 3,000 robberies taking place so far this year. At this point last year, 1,791 robberies had occurred, the outlet noted. 
A CVS spokesman <a href="https://wtop.com/dc/2023/10/thieves-hit-columbia-heights-cvs-leaving-shelves-nearly-empty/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> WTOP that the company has no plans to shutter any of its Washington, D.C., locations. 
In July, it was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/some-san-francisco-stores-locking-up-frozen-foods-to-prevent-shoplifting" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed</a> that some stores in San Francisco began locking up their frozen foods section due to retail theft. One CBS News Bay Area reporter said that a Walgreens location was being robbed 20 times a day, prompting it to start locking up goods. 
“Workers said normally shoplifters clean out all the pizza and ice cream every night. They’re usually hit 20x a day. Five Florida legislators have flipped their allegiance from Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis to former President Donald Trump in the race for the GOP presidential nomination. 
In all, Trump <a href="https://themessenger.com/news/trump-scores-more-florida-lawmaker-endorsements-including-desantis-defectors-exclusive" target="_blank" rel="noopener">gained</a> seven endorsements from state legislators on Saturday, the same day he gave a speech at the Florida Freedom Summit. The five who flipped from DeSantis to Trump include State Reps. Jessica Baker, Webster Barnaby, Alina Garcia, Kevin Steele, and State Sen. Debbie Mayfield.
State Representatives Mike Beltran and David Borrero, who had not yet endorsed in the race, threw their support behind the former president and GOP frontrunner on Saturday. Previously, Trump <a href="https://nhjournal.com/trump-loses-nhgop-rep-endorsement-to-desantis-over-treatment-of-fox-news-host/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lost</a> the support of <a href="https://nhjournal.com/another-nhgop-state-rep-dumps-trump-endorses-desantis/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">two</a> New Hampshire state representatives and an Iowa state <a href="https://ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/politics/2023/07/14/iowa-state-senator-flips-support-from-trump-to-desantis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">senator</a>, who each defected to DeSantis.

On Saturday, Trump brought some of the legislators who flipped their support to him on stage during his address to the summit, where he <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/11/04/densantis-trump-florida/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> received the strongest show of support among all of the GOP candidates for president. The seven endorsements follow another DeSantis defector, State Rep. Randy Fine, who <a href="https://themessenger.com/politics/top-ally-bashes-desantiss-antisemitism-response-and-switches-endorsement-to-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsed</a> Trump two weeks ago. Trump also has the support of the majority of Florida’s congressional delegation, including Reps. Byron Donalds, Matt Gaetz, and Anna Paulina Luna. Fourteen of Florida’s Republican congress members have endorsed the former president, while one has endorsed DeSantis, according to The Messenger. 
On Thursday, Trump landed the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/florida-sen-rick-scott-endorses-trump-for-president-says-gop-should-unite" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsement</a> of Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL). Scott, who served as Florida’s governor until 2019 when he became senator, said he and Trump had a strong relationship during Trump’s first term, working “hand in hand” to improve Florida.

In both the <a href="https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/elections/2010/results/florida.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2010</a> and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/elections/2014/florida-elections" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2014</a> gubernatorial elections, Scott defeated his Democrat challengers by just over a percentage point. In 2018, DeSantis <a href="https://www.politico.com/election-results/2018/florida/governor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defeated</a> Democrat challenger Andrew Gillum by .4% but won by a <a href="https://www.politico.com/2022-election/results/florida/statewide-offices/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">margin</a> of more than 19 percentage points four years later. In 2016, Trump <a href="https://www.politico.com/2016-election/results/map/president/florida/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">won</a> the state by just over a percentage point and <a href="https://www.cnn.com/election/2020/results/state/florida/president" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increased</a> his support in the state four years later, defeating President Joe Biden 51.2% to 47.9%. 
For his part, DeSantis’s team said his detractors didn’t mean much in the race and touted his endorsements in Iowa. 
“Ron DeSantis is dominating the field — including the former president — in supportive state legislative endorsements from across the country,” spokesman Bryan Griffin told The Messenger. “In Iowa, DeSantis holds a historic count of 41 state legislative endorsements, which far surpasses Trump &#8230; And, in Florida, DeSantis has nearly 100 state legislators endorsing his run for president. That, too, is a number that significantly outpaces Trump.&#8221;

Missouri GOP Senator Eric Schmitt is speaking out about China’s role in the world, saying the “dynamic” in world affairs has “changed dramatically.” 
Schmitt made the comments on Sunday during an <a href="https://catsroundtable.com/sen-eric-schmitt-the-us-has-serious-problems-confronting-it/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> on “The Cats Roundtable” talk show with host John Catsimatidis. He said “China’s ambitions” pose a bigger threat than previous adversaries because it is both a military and economic rival.
“I don’t think we’re starting to come to grips with that as a country, but China views themselves as a, you know, 5,000-year-old civilization,” he continued. “They are hell-bent on world domination – now they’ve kind of showed their fangs.”
Schmitt said China is using the belt-and-road initiative to achieve its rise by trapping poorer countries in a “debt trap.” He added that China’s increasing aggression in the South China Sea, where the communist country has built islands in an attempt to increase its claims over the territory. 
The Missouri Republican also warned about China’s military and space capabilities, pointing out that it has a larger navy than the U.S., that it obtained hypersonic missiles, and that they are in space. China&#8217;s People&#8217;s Liberation Army has approximately 340 warships, a number that&#8217;s expected to grow to 400 in the next couple of years. The United States has fewer than 300 ships, according to the Pentagon’s 2022 China Military Power <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/16/asia/china-navy-fleet-size-history-victory-intl-hnk-ml/index.html#:~:text=The%20People's%20Liberation%20Army%20Navy,two%20years%2C%20the%20report%20says." target="_blank" rel="noopener">Report</a>. U.S. officials expect to have 350 ships by 2045. 
“If you think about that, the dynamic has changed dramatically,” Schmitt said. “The United States of America, you know, during the Cold War, we had a nuclear rival with Russia – a military rival. But never a military and an economic rival. That’s what we have with China.”
The former Missouri attorney general said the United States has to take the threat China poses “seriously” because we don’t have a “military-industrial base right now.” He said that for the U.S. to be able to compete on the world stage, it must “build that back up.”

Schmitt, who <a href="https://www.armed-services.senate.gov/about/membership" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sits on</a> the Senate Committee on Armed Services, blasted “climate alarmism” and Biden&#8217;s policies for sending American jobs to China when Catsimatidis asked if the U.S. “may be in trouble” in the case of a “real war.” 
“This is a big concern,” Schmitt said. “I think it plays into, again, the Biden agenda, when you have this obsession with climate alarmism like they have, we have all the energy we’ll ever need right under our feet to be competitive from an industrial perspective.&#8221;
“But we’re shipping all those jobs essentially to China, and they’re mining all those rare earth materials there,” Schmitt said. “We could be doing it here. … Our supply chains are compromised. We need to bring those home.”
Schmitt blasted Biden’s broad foreign policy as well, noting the current administration’s &#8220;soft on Iran approach,&#8221; Biden’s pick for ambassador to Israel, and the 2020 withdrawal from Afghanistan potentially leaving resources that are now being used by Hamas, saying, “Everything they could get wrong, they’ve gotten wrong on foreign policy.”

Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott endorsed former President Donald Trump’s re-election bid on Thursday, adding to Trump’s support from the Sunshine State’s congressional delegation. 
Scott made the endorsement in a Newsweek <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/rick-scott-its-time-unite-behind-donald-trump-opinion-1840060" target="_blank" rel="noopener">op-ed</a>, where he called on Republicans to unite behind Trump to defeat President Joe Biden. The Florida senator, who has <a href="https://www.news-journalonline.com/story/news/politics/elections/2023/11/02/senator-rick-scott-backs-donald-trump-over-florida-gov-ron-desantis/71420992007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> refrained from primary endorsements in the past, touted Trump’s accomplishments in his first term and blasted Biden’s failures. 
“I am optimistic that we can return America to its rightful position of economic and military strength and the undisputed moral leader of the free world, but only with strong leadership in the White House,” Scott wrote. “That is why I support my friend President Donald J. Trump to be the 47th president of the United States and encourage every Republican to unite behind his efforts to win back the White House.”
“It&#8217;s time for the Republican Party to come together, behind one candidate, and declare with one voice that we are united in our efforts to defeat Joe Biden and rescue America,” he added. 
Scott said that the country was &#8220;safer and more prosperous” while Trump was in office, citing the economy, energy independence, and the 45th president’s tough stance against China and adversarial leaders across the world. 
The Florida senator also praised Trump’s support for Israel during his term, saying he did “more for Israel than any other president in our history” and ushered in a period of peace in the Middle East. The current administration, according to Scott, is doing everything in its power to reverse Trump’s successes. 
Scott, who served as Florida’s governor until 2019, when he became senator, said he and Trump had a strong relationship during Trump&#8217;s first term, working “hand in hand” to improve Florida. He added that they “accomplished a lot together” and must do the same in 2024 to reverse Biden’s policies. 
“Here&#8217;s the honest truth. It&#8217;s not morning in America today. President Joe Biden is planning to meet with Chinese President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/xi-jinping" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xi Jinping</a> in California later this month, the White House said Tuesday.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made the <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2023/10/31/biden-will-meet-with-chinas-xi-jinping-next-month-white-house-says.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announcement</a> during a Tuesday press briefing. She said the president would meet with the Chinese leader on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco, which is set to take place in mid-November.
&#8220;The president said he’s looking forward to meeting with President Xi and so [I&#8217;m] not going to get into details about this meeting that’s going to happen […] next month,&#8221; Jean-Pierre <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-meet-xi-jinping-face-face-san-francisco-white-house-confirms" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;It’s going to be in San Francisco, it’s going to be a constructive meeting, the president’s looking forward to it.&#8221;
Jean-Pierre wouldn&#8217;t divulge any further details on the planned meeting, <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2023/10/31/biden-will-meet-with-chinas-xi-jinping-next-month-white-house-says.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to</a> CNBC, but said that she expects the two world leaders to have a “tough conversation.” She added that the administration&#8217;s stance on the communist country has not changed.
“This is intense competition — that we have said that we want to move forward with China — and intense competition means intense diplomacy, that’s what you’re going to see,” she said. “That’s what the president is going to be doing and having a tough conversation but important conversation.&#8221;
On Wednesday, a senior Biden administration official <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/white-house-aims-biden-xi-meeting-san-francisco-november-2023-10-31/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Reuters Biden and Xi have an “agreement in principle” to meet, while advisers for each leader are still working through the details to “finalize” that plan.
According to the outlet, Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi on Friday to discuss the possibility of a meeting between the two leaders. Fox News reports that talks of a Biden-Xi meeting have been in the works for months, intending to build back trust and restore communication between the United States and China.
Potential topics of discussion between Biden and Xi include increased Chinese aggression toward Taiwan and Xi Jinping’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, all topics that U.S. officials have expressed concern about in recent weeks, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/biden-xi-meeting-san-francisco-apec-summit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a>.

The former GOP candidate <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcOiWYEnjVA" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blasted</a> the Biden administration’s border policies and told the crowd that under Trump, the United States had a secure border. Carson said it’s almost certain that terrorists have flowed through the border during Biden’s three years in office, quipping it would be “terrorist malpractice” if they weren’t already planning something.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson blasted the Democratic Party just weeks after jumping ship for being weak on violent crime and attempting to “defund the police.&#8221; 
Johnson, who made headlines last month for switching to the Republican Party, was asked about crime policies being one of the reasons for his switch during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream. He said that he decided to “do things differently” than other Democrats who were calling for reallocating financial support away from the police despite persistent and <a href="https://crim.sas.upenn.edu/fact-check/violent-crime-increasing#:~:text=Violent%20crime%20recently%20has%20been,increases%20have%20continued%20into%202022." target="_blank" rel="noopener">rising</a> violent crime throughout the country. 
“What I’ve seen across the country, too often I think that Democrats primarily is what I’m talking about because that’s who controls most of the major cities in this country – 75 of the top 100 cities in the country are run by Democrats – the problem has become that Democrats were not willing, I think, to say that violent crime is a problem in their city and that it’s a problem that they could actually do something about,” Johnson said. 
“In Dallas, I dug in pretty firmly against this whole idea of defunding the police and I said, ‘We’re gonna do things differently here,’ and we’ve had different results,” Johnson told Bream. 
The Republican mayor said Democrats tend to blame violent crime on society, the education system, and the economy, which he says “have always been present.&#8221; Current levels of homicide and other violent crimes, the mayor argues, have not always been as high. 
Johnson also brushed off criticism from a Democrat city council member who claimed that Dallas has become one of the safest large cities in the country because of the Democrat-controlled city council. The mayor said the council “eventually” came to agree with him on crime-reduction policies. 
“We were all Democrats at the time,” the mayor said, noting he only switched political parties recently. “It was always a challenge and there were reasons why we had a lot of disagreements, there was a lot of coverage for a long time about a lot of the arguments and a lot of the debates that happened around Dallas City Hall around how we need to respond to requests to defund our police.”
The mayor said that the city council did propose amendments to defund its police department, but he said those were proposed “largely symbolically” and had no legitimate policy reason. According to Johnson, the proposals had the money allocated for things like solar panels and environmental issues – things that “have nothing to do” with the safety of a city during a “crime spike.” 
In September, Johnson, a longtime Democrat, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/longtime-democrat-dallas-mayor-switching-to-gop-american-cities-need-republicans" target="_blank" rel="noopener">switched</a> to the Republican Party, though his office is technically nonpartisan. In an <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/americas-cities-need-republicans-and-im-becoming-one-dallas-texas-mayor-965dbaa4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">op-ed</a> for The Wall Street Journal, he said Dallas has “thrived” under his leadership while Democrat policies in other big cities have worsened homelessness and crime. 
“The future of America’s great urban centers depends on the willingness of the nation’s mayors to champion law and order and practice fiscal conservatism,” Johnson wrote. “Our cities desperately need the genuine commitment to these principles (as opposed to the inconsistent, poll-driven commitment of many Democrats) that has long been a defining characteristic of the GOP.”

These policies, Johnson argues, &#8220;demoralize the police department.&#8221;

Former President Donald Trump blasted President Joe Biden’s foreign policy on Saturday, saying the president’s “weakness” has caused problems worldwide. 
During a speech at the Republican Jewish Coalition summit in Las Vegas, Nevada, Trump said Biden’s foreign policy led to the October 7 attack on Israel. The former president also blasted Hamas, saying the Islamic terrorist group is behind all the bloodshed and death that has followed. 
“Joe Biden’s weakness caused the attack on Israel,” Trump <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2023/10/28/donald-trump-to-republican-jewish-coalition-bidens-weakness-caused-the-attack-on-israel/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “Everywhere he goes, Biden’s weakness provokes war and death — because as history shows, evil only respects one thing: unyielding strength.”
The former president, who polls show has a commanding lead in the GOP primary, went on to express his support for Israel, saying he stands with Americans and Israelis impacted by the terrorist attacks: “We love you, we grieve with you, we share your anger, and we stand with you … 110%.” 
Trump added that the conflict was not between two “equal sides” but a fight between good and evil, explaining that Hamas “worships death” while Israel “cherishes life.” Every life lost in the conflict between the two sides is because of Hamas – not Israel – the former president said. 
&#8220;Let there be no doubt, the killers responsible for this massacre will burn forever in the eternal pit of hell,” the 45th president <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/campaigns/trump-republican-jewish-coalition-vegas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.

Former President Donald Trump on Saturday called on his former vice president and previous running mate to endorse him. 
Former Vice President Mike Pence had <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mike-pence-suspends-2024-presidential-campaign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspended</a> his presidential campaign earlier in the day during a speech at the Republican Jewish Coalition Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. 
“People are leaving now and they’re all endorsing me,” Trump said. “I don’t know about Mike Pence. He should endorse me. He should endorse me. You know why? Because I had a great successful presidency and he was the vice president. He should endorse me. I chose him, made him vice president, but people in politics can be very disloyal.”

In his speech, Pence told the crowd it was not his time to lead the country but said he would “never leave the fight for conservative values.” He did not make an endorsement but called on Republicans to stay away from the “siren song of populism.”

He was polling in fifth place, behind Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, and tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. 
Trump’s call for Pence’s endorsement came during his second speech in Las Vegas on Saturday – he spoke at the Republican Jewish Coalition gathering shortly after Pence but did not address his former VP&#8217;s campaign suspension during the appearance. DeSantis spoke immediately after Pence and also did not address the former VP’s comments, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/mike-pence-suspends-2024-presidential-campaign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Fox News, though he did issue a statement later.  
Pence served as vice president from 2017 to 2021 under Trump. Leading up to the events of January 6, 2021, their relationship appeared to strain, and both Trump and Pence have since taken shots at each other. 
In Trump&#8217;s speech to the Republican Jewish Coalition, he said that &#8220;everybody that leaves&#8221; the race was endorsing him, referring to conservative talk radio host Larry Elder and Michigan businessman Perry Johnson. Elder <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/larry-elder-suspends-presidential-campaign-endorses-trump-its-time-to-unite" target="_blank" rel="noopener">endorsed</a> Trump after suspending his presidential campaign just days ago, saying that Trump&#8217;s “leadership has been instrumental in advancing conservative, America-first principles.” 
Johnson <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/perry-johnson-endorses-trump-after-suspending-2024-campaign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dropped</a> out of the race two weeks ago. He endorsed Trump last week, saying he is the only candidate who can “provide a solution to our nation’s economic, foreign policy and social crises, and most importantly, beat Joe Biden at the ballot box.”

“While other issues in Washington and abroad have largely driven the news cycle over the last few weeks, the influx of migrants to New York remains top of mind for voters, with 84% saying it’s a serious – 57% very serious – problem for the state,” Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said. “Seldom do we see an issue where at least 79% of Democrats, Republicans, independents, men, women, upstaters, downstaters, Blacks, whites, Latinos, Catholics, Jews, and Protestants all agree – that the migrant influx is a serious problem.”
The poll, which was conducted October 15-19 on 1,225 registered voters in the state, found that a majority of white, black, and Latino voters agree with New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ statement that the crisis will “destroy” the city. The respondents hold their state leaders — and Biden — accountable for the influx of illegal immigrants. 
Fifty-two percent of registered voters in the state disapprove of the job Democrat New York Governor Kathy Hochul is doing regarding the crisis, while 46% feel the same way about Adams and 64% disapprove of Biden’s handling of the issue.  
“Voters disapprove of the job Governor Kathy Hochul is doing to address the migrant influx by 15 points, but they disapprove of the job Adams is doing on the migrant issue by 16 points and they disapprove of the Biden Administration on this issue by a whopping 35 points, including a slight plurality of Democrats,” Greenberg said. 
Earlier this month, New York was seeing 600 illegal immigrants entering the city <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/03/eric-adams-migrants-new-york-city-00119747" target="_blank" rel="noopener">every day</a>. The city has a “right to shelter” obligation, but officials, including Mayor Adams, are working to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/10/04/nyregion/eric-adams-right-to-shelter-migrant-crisis.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspend</a> that in light of the massive numbers entering the city. In a statement, Adams said it was “abundantly clear that the status quo cannot continue.” 
The city earlier this month <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-york-city-to-limit-migrant-family-shelter-stays-to-60-days-mayor-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">limited</a> immigrant families to 60 days in shelters, after which they would need to reapply. This move followed a similar action for single adults, who must reapply after 30 days. They have already erected large tents to house immigrants, and now city officials are discussing handing out tents to illegal immigrant arrivals to sleep in parks and other outdoor areas, according to a <a href="https://www.wsj.com/us-news/new-york-migrant-shelters-tents-24290d6b" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from The Wall Street Journal.

“It’s not ‘if’ people will be sleeping on the streets, it’s when,” Adams said Tuesday. “We are at full capacity. We have to sort of localize it as much as possible. We have to make sure that people have some type of restroom facilities, some type of shower network.”
In fiscal year 2022, there were 2.2 million illegal immigrant encounters on the southern border, and in 2023, there were 2.06 million, according to immigration data from the Department of Homeland Security. Those numbers have surpassed the previous record of 1.692 million encounters the country had in 1986, the Washington Examiner <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/immigration/biden-administration-2-million-arrested-illegally-crossing-border" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
