Trump Responds To Attack On State Lawmakers: ‘Such Horrific Violence Will Not Be Tolerated’

President Donald Trump issued a statement through White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt after an apparently targeted shooting left two Minnesota Democratic lawmakers dead.

Leavitt shared the president’s thoughts in a post shared via X, promising that the Justice Department would get to the bottom of the situation and ensure that justice would be served.

Attorney General Pam Bondi also issued a statement, echoing Trump’s sentiments and saying, “I am closely monitoring developments in Minnesota after what appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers. The FBI is on the ground investigating this case alongside state and local partners. This horrific violence will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) made the heartbreaking announcement at a Saturday morning press conference, confirming that Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark Hortman had been shot and killed — and that state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife Yvette had also been shot — in attacks that appear to have been politically motivated.

Hoffman and his wife have been hospitalized and are reported to be in stable condition.

According to local law enforcement, the suspect was impersonating a police officer at the time of the shootings — and alerts have gone out to and local residents warning them that the suspect may still be wearing a law enforcement uniform. They have been advised not to open doors for police officers who do not approach their home in pairs.
