<p>President-elect Donald Trump nominated former football star Herschel Walker to be the next U.S. Ambassador to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.</p>
<p>Trump made the announcement Tuesday night on social media where he highlighted some of what Walker has done outside of football.</p>
<p>&#8220;Herschel has spent decades serving as an Ambassador to our Nation’s youth, our men and women in the Military, and athletes at home and abroad,&#8221; Trump said.</p>
<p>&#8220;A successful businessman, philanthropist, former Heisman Trophy winner, and NFL Great, Herschel has been a tireless advocate for youth sports,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;During my First Term, he served as Co-Chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.&#8221;</p>

<p>Trump said that Walker has traveled to more than 400 military installations around the world to promote removing the stigma surrounding mental health.</p>

<p>The 62-year-old Republican ran for a U.S. Senate seat in Georgia in 2022 and narrowly lost to Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) in a runoff after both candidates failed to reach the 50% threshold in the first round of voting.</p>
<p>Walker won the Heisman Trophy at the University of Georgia, where he starred as a running back from 1980 through 1982, helping the team rack up a 34-5 record and win two national championships.</p>
<p>He played 13 seasons in the NFL, including seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants.</p>
