WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump has removed Susie Wiles from her role as chief of staff, replacing her with his longtime adviser Stephen Miller.
A White House official told The Daily Wire on Friday afternoon that Wiles had resigned from her role on Thursday evening. The president announced the news on Friday afternoon before he departed the White House for Palm Beach, where he will spend the weekend.
“I am pleased to announce that Mr. Stephen Miller, the current deputy chief of staff of the Trump administration, and one of my most trusted advisors, will become the chief of staff starting Monday, November 9, 2026,” Trump said.
“Susie Wiles, who has done an outstanding job, will be moving over to the Trump Political Operation. I want to thank her for her service as chief of staff — She has done a great job!”
Wiles announced her departure in a statement also released Friday afternoon.
“Today is my last day as White House Chief of Staff,” she said. “Serving President Trump in the White House has been the honor of a lifetime. I’m so proud to have been a part of what we’ve accomplished together from securing our border and cutting taxes to strengthening our economy and putting America First.”
“More than anything,” she added. “I’m grateful for the extraordinary people I’ve had the privilege of working alongside. While my role may be changing, my commitment to the President and the mission never will.”

Trump’s move to tap Miller gained immediate support from War Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The move comes as the Trump administration grapples with the devastating losses for Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections. Washington has speculated for the last several days that heads would roll in the White House — Wiles appears to be the first of possibly more transitions that will take place as a result of the elections.
Miller has earned a reputation for being aggressively loyal to the president and staunch in his support for Trump’s policies and agenda.
“He is a war time consigliere,” a source close to the White House told The Daily Wire as the news broke, “and his hiring probably sends the best possible message to the base.”
Former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who had a close working relationship with Wiles during her time in the administration, said Friday that Wiles is “one of the kindest and toughest people I’ve ever met.”
“She helped power the greatest political comeback in American history in 2024, and as the first woman to serve as White House Chief of Staff, she led the most productive start to a presidency in decades, even while battling breast cancer,” Leavitt said. “I’m proud to call her my friend and former boss.”
Leavitt praised Miller as the “perfect choice” to succeed Wiles, adding: “No one is more loyal, more hardworking, or more in touch with the America First movement than Stephen.”
“I have complete confidence that he will make the final two years of the President’s term a resounding success,” she said. “Now is the time to fix what’s not working and double down on all of the victories we’ve already achieved. What we cannot do is fall into despair and hand the country over to the Radical Democrats. Let’s win.”
Steven Cheung, the assistant to the president and White House communications director, thanked Wiles for reconnecting him with Trump.
“I will always be indebted to Susie Wiles for bringing me back into Trump World during the in-between period,” Cheung said. “She didn’t have to, but she did. Her kindness and grace, along with an unrelenting will to win for President Trump speaks to her unimpeachable character. Thank you, Susie!”
