A new report reveals that the Trump administration and the Israeli government are demanding that Iran relinquish all enriched uranium before any nuclear agreement is signed.

On April 12, President Donald Trump sent a letter to the Iranian government warning that it had 60 days to comply with his demands or military action might be taken. According to Abdulkhaleq Abdullah, a former adviser to UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed, Trump wanted the following changes: Iran’s nuclear program stopped; uranium enrichment halted; no more arms shipments to the Houthis in Yemen; no more financial support for Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the disbanding of military groups aligned with the Popular Mobilization Forces in Iraq.

After Iran refused to comply with Trump’s demands, Israel launched its comprehensive assault on Iran on June 13, the 61st day.

Israel Hayom reports, Trump and the Israelis are demanding Iran give up all enriched uranium it still possesses: “The US intends to present Iran with three baseline demands for reentering negotiations: a total ban on uranium enrichment on Iranian soil, the removal of all highly enriched uranium Iran has stockpiled, and limitations on future missile production.”

Enriched uranium can be used to make nuclear weapons, but can also be used to create a “dirty bomb,” a type of radiological dispersal device (RDD). The radiation from a “dirty bomb” could spread a few miles from the explosion, according to the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

“Most RDD scenarios tend to focus on a device that uses high explosives to pulverize and disperse radioactive material,” Peter Zimmerman of National Defense University, which is funded by the United States Department of Defense, has noted. “It is important to note that there are a number of methods that can be used to deliver radiological material in addition to the highly publicized method of using conventional high explosives. Radioactive material can be disseminated in the form of discrete sources. Some forms of isotopes can be dissolved in solvents and sprayed widely; still others can be burned or vaporized. … any complete plan to respond to an RDD must take into account all of the reasonable ways such a device might function, including those so stealthy that the population might ingest or inhale significant doses before an attack becomes apparent.”
