A transgender inmate — a man who identifies as a woman — has reportedly impregnated two females being held at New Jersey’s women’s only prison. The double pregnancy occurs less than a year after the state began adopting new radical gender theory practices in its prison system, which includes placing inmates in the facility based on their gender identification.

If this sounds absurd, and you’re reading this wondering if you’re on “Candid Camera,” you would be forgiven for thinking this report was ripped right off of reality television.

There is a TV show titled “Love During Lockup.” It’s a spin-off of “Love After Lockup.” The idea behind shows is pretty evident in their respective titles; one show documents inmates finding love during lockup while the other features those who find a romantic partner after their jail time has ended.

Admittedly, the author of this piece has only heard about these shows through acquaintances, but they are apparently wonderfully trashy TV.

Like any reality TV though, there’s always the underlying feeling that it’s all scripted. Well, if you’re a fan of the show and wondering if anybody really does find love during lockup, this is the story for you.

NJ.com reported this past week that two women “incarcerated at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility — the state’s only female prison — have become pregnant after having sex with a transgender inmate.”

Dan Sperrazza, New Jersey’s Department of Correction’s external affairs executive director, told NJ.com that “consensual sexual relationships with another incarcerated person” likely led to the two becoming pregnant.

According to Sperezza, Edna Mahan houses 27 other transgender individuals.

In 2021, the state of New Jersey began enforcing radical gender theory in its correctional system. The change occurred after the state was sued by an anonymous prisoner who was being kept in men’s prisons despite identifying as a female.

NPR reported that as part of the settlement between the unnamed individual and New Jersey, the state’s correctional department agreed to make “it customary for prisoners who identify as transgender, intersex or nonbinary to be assigned a prison stay in line with their gender identity — not with the sex they were assigned at birth.”

“The new policy will require staff to use appropriate pronouns, and prohibits harassment and discrimination based on gender identity,” NPR added at the time.

The decision between the two parties was praised by Left-leaning activist groups.

“The settlement of this lawsuit puts in place systemic, far-reaching policy changes to recognize and respect the gender identity of people in prison,” Tess Borden, ACLU-NJ Staff Attorney, said after the lawsuit was settled.

Of course, it should be mentioned that “Love During Lockup” typically features one person who is inside the jail and another who is on the outside. It seems like it would get old fast, but this alleged story out of New Jersey just might give the producers of “Love During Lockup” some new plotlines to follow.
