The transgender-identifying man at the center of a firestorm over his use of women’s locker rooms in a Los Angeles gym had been convicted of assaulting his now ex-wife, according to records obtained from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio.
Grant Freeman, who now uses the name of his ex-wife “Alexis,” was charged with domestic assault after he was arrested by police for slamming his wife’s head against a toilet seat. When officers got to the scene, Freeman refused to let them in causing the officers to force entry, the police report shows.
Tish Hyman, a Los Angeles woman, went viral this week after she posted video of her up in arms at the gym after Freeman was in the women’s locker room. Hyman’s outcry has been the locker room talk heard around the world this week.
In the video that’s going viral on social media, Hyman is shouting in the middle of her crowded gym that there are “grown men in the women’s locker room” in her gym. The LA-based singer said her membership was cancelled after complaining about multiple men harassing her in the women’s locker room while she was naked. Her video was spotted by Riley Gaines, the outspoken athlete on transgender issues, who called Hyman’s actions “bold.”
Hyman says this was far from an isolated incident, and Hyman says it was a series of incidents that landed her at the center of the renewed firestorm of men invading women’s spaces.
Hyman said she confronted Freeman after he called her a “b*tch.” Hyman said in her post “people need to know what’s happening.”

Hyman said this has turned into an ongoing issue. She said she’s run into men like Freeman seven times in the last month. She said Freeman is a repeat offender, and it’s a prevailing pattern: she goes to the gym, goes to the locker room, runs into a man, files a complaint, and staff stays silent. Rinse. Repeat. Until she put her outrage on the internet.
Freeman spoke to TMZ Live to defend himself for being in the locker room. In fact he went as far to say he didn’t “understand” Hyman’s anger, although he’s been kicked out of other gyms including Planet Fitness and Crunch.

Hyman said she’s concerned about safety when it comes to men in women’s spaces. The arrest records indicate that her feelings were valid, and she says she’d seen indications of Freeman’s temper.
Freeman doesn’t understand Hyman’s reaction and he’s not bothered by the pushback he’s getting online. The man said he’s known he was a woman since he was eight, even though he married a woman. He told TMZ he still has all his male organs, and that surgery isn’t “a real possibility” right now.
He appeared very joyful with TMZ, adding this “had to happen” and that he’s glad this is getting attention because transgender people aren’t going anywhere.
Despite Gold’s Gym lack of support, Hyman has received overwhelmingly positive reactions from public figures.
Gaines, who knows all too well what it’s like sharing a locker room with a man, commended Hyman on social media saying “God bless you for speaking the truth loudly.”
Jennifer Sey, CEO of XX-XY Athletics, told The Daily Wire she’s excited Hyman is exposing the truth about what is happening in women’s locker rooms.
“She is just so fierce and has been so outspoken about having encountered seven men in the last few weeks,” Sey said.
Other supporters of Hyman include three-time Olympian Inga Thompson who said in a post on X, “Keep speaking up. We need your voice!”
Hyman is calling for women to cancel their gym memberships until women are protected.
“It must stop now,” she said.
