Ratings for the third Republican presidential debate on NBC fell even further than the viewership for the second GOP debate and the Country Music Awards (CMA) just barely missed scoring its worst showing ever.
Nielsen data released on Thursday show that the showdown between the five Republican presidential hopefuls brought in 7.5 million viewers on the network compared to the 9.5 million people who tuned in to Fox News, Fox Business, and Univision on September 27, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The debate, while it was also broadcast on Peacock and other streaming and digital platforms, was not broadcast on NBC’s sister stations CNBC or MSNBC. The numbers show the viewership not only fell from the second debate where people tuned in to hear what the then-seven GOP candidates had to say, but dramatically from the nearly 13 million who tuned in to watch the first GOP primary debate in August.

To put that into further context, the interest from American people was much higher in 2015 when nearly 24 million people tuned in to watch the first GOP primary debate held by Fox News and the second one, which was hosted by CNN, scored 22.9 million people, The New York Times noted.
These ratings for the five remaining Republican presidential hopefuls Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and businessmen Vivek Ramaswamy, can’t be good news for the five who spent the two hours trying to have a breakout moment in hopes of knocking out the current front-runner, former President Donald Trump.
Over on the ABC network, the 2023 CMA Awards viewership was down by 10 percent over the previous year, with an average of 6.84 million tuning in to find which of their favorite country music artists would be honored. Wednesday’s broadcast not only fell in the ratings from the 2022 award show, but managed to barely beat out the lowest viewership ever for the CMA’s which happened in 2015 when the awards show scored an all-time low of 6.83 million.

The ratings for the country music awards show also plummeted in the coveted age demographic of adults 18-49, with a record low of 0.9, falling below a 1.0 for the first time, THR noted.
