“The View” co-hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, and Joy Behar broadly condemned the terrorist group Hamas after four days of devastation and violence perpetrated against Israeli civilians, beginning with the unprovoked attacks that were launched by Hamas on Saturday.
Griffin called the attacks “true evil,” and Haines noted that Hamas has long held the total annihilation of Israel as its main reason for existing — but co-host Sunny Hostin pushed back, worrying that the Israelis would attack Gaza in “anger” and hurt civilians in the process.
“It’s just gutting to watch,” Griffin said of the reports coming from the devastated region. “This is tragedy and it’s something that — I was really struck with — I have struggled with understanding how the Holocaust was able to take place in my grandparents’ lifetime. But you see the Jewish people being targeted in a way that is so horrific — at a music festival, there are reports of babies being beheaded.”
“We are witnessing true evil,” she continued, struggling to keep her emotions in check. “My heart is with the Israeli people, my heart is praying for a peaceful solution to this.”

Haines weighed in next, noting that Hamas had a reputation for using innocent civilians as “shields,” hiding their weapons caches and military targets behind private homes, schools, and hospitals.
“There’s so much death right now at the hands of a terrorist organization, Hamas, whose sole charter is to destroy Israel, no matter what you give them, land, whatever, they will keep coming back until they destroy Israel,” she said. “And they’re using their own people as shields.”

Haines went on to explain that when Israel issued warnings to civilians, telling them to evacuate before incoming airstrikes, Hamas leaders told the civilians to stay where they were — and when the airstrikes were carried out, they accused Israel of intentionally attacking civilians.
Hostin pushed back a bit, saying that Hamas’ attacks over the weekend had provoked a lot of “anger on the Israeli side” — which she conceded was “arguably correctly so” — but that she also worried the counterstrikes would necessarily result in more civilian casualties.

Behar sided with Haines and Griffin, laying out the stark difference between the way the Israelis wage war and the way Hamas has: “Israelis will warn them ‘we’re coming in.’ [Hamas] did not warn them. They killed teenagers … kids like our kids at a rock concert. They kidnapped infants.”
“These are monstrous people,” she concluded.
