The Queen’s Visits To America And With U.S. Presidents, In Photos
Buckingham Palace shared the news Thursday that Queen Elizabeth II had died at the age of 96. In honor of her incredible life, we took a look back at her visits to America and with U.S. presidents during her lifetime.
The Queen recently celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, marking her 70 years on the throne and making her the longest reigning monarch in British history. During that time, she’s met almost every single president since Harry S. Truman, and so many of those moments have been captured in photos that will live forever.
In October 1951, Princess Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, arrived in Washington, D.C., and were welcomed by Truman. In the photo, Elizabeth is seen traveling in a motorcade, following a reception ceremony at Washington National Airport.
In 1957, Queen Elizabeth travels to New York City as part of her Royal Tour. In the photo, we see her motorcade riding through the city.
In 1961, Queen Elizabeth II welcomed President John F. Kennedy and first lady Jackie Kennedy in England.
In 1970, Queen Elizabeth II meets with U.S President Richard Nixon and his wife Patricia at Chequers, British Prime Minister Edward Heath’s official country home.
In 1976, Queen Elizabeth II dances with President Gerald Ford at the ball at the White House in Washington, D.C., during the 1976 Bicentennial Celebrations of the Declaration of Independence.
In 1982, the Queen meet with President Ronald Reagan, and the two are seen in the following photo enjoying a horseback ride at Windsor Castle in England.
In 1983, Queen Elizabeth II reviews the guard of honor at Broadway Pier, in San Diego, California, after she arrived in the USA on board HMY Britannia during her royal tour.
That same year, Queen Elizabeth II delivered a speech during a state dinner with President Reagan at the De Young Museum in San Francisco. In the photo, Reagan can be seen cracking up at the monarch’s joke about the lousy weather in California.
In 1991, Queen Elizabeth II meets Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles players. She can also be seen in the next photo with President George Bush during her visit to the U.S.
In 2006, the Queen met with President George W. Bush as the two wave from the Blue Room Balcony of the White House during her visit to Washington, D.C.
In 2011, Queen Elizabeth II welcomes President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama in London, England.
In 2019, the Queen joins President Donald Trump raising a toast at a State Banquet in the ballroom at Buckingham Palace in London.
