Fans are getting even more excited for “The Pendragon Cycle” as two additional videos of behind-the-scenes content were released. These production diaries about the upcoming DailyWire+ heroic adventure offer fans insider access to the making of the series.
“The Week of Battles: Production Diary 2” followed the actors and crew during week two of filming, which was focused on creating epic battle scenes using blood, iron, and mayhem. First, actors were carefully transformed into Saxxons, the show’s version of Vikings, using makeup, prosthetics, and wardrobe.
“The Pendragon Cycle” creator Jeremy Boreing called the battle scenes filming “a dirty week” but also dubbed it a huge success. “We’ve been in filth the entire week, but it’s a lot of fun,” Boreing said.
This production diary installment gave a glimpse of one of the first battles, which was when the Saxxon warriors attack the Maridunum gates.
“It’s just a classic battle. Guys on foot, guys on horseback, meeting in the middle, crashing together,” Director of Photography Kris Kimlin said, describing the footage as “a week of battles” with “epic battle sequences.”
That included bloody, vicious fighting in the pouring rain and inches of mud. Actors committed to nailing each scene as they captured all the required shots on the ground and on horseback.
“Wow! Week 1 diary was really good. But this one is over-the-top exceeding expectations,” one commenter wrote on YouTube. “The production quality revealed by these shots is amazing! I’m now officially very excited for this. Thanks for hiring some actors who are unique-looking and look really good all messed up in medieval badassery!”
Production Diary #3 is called “Meet the Show’s Villain.” This is when fans get an introduction to Morgian, the Queen of Air and Darkness, who is described as the anti-Merlin and representative of evil. These are the first scenes filmed at the home of the Atlanteans.
This installment also delves into the creation of the Atlantean language, which is an extra step compared to the books where the characters just speak English.
Linguist Spencer Klavan discussed the process of creating a language. He insists the extra effort was worth it.
“I used to think that J.R.R. Tolkien was a total weirdo for having created Elvish. Like, who would go that far to build out a whole language for this universe? And the minute I started doing this, I instantly understood,” Klavan said. “It just is so engrossing and such a beautiful way to build a world.”
He said the language came from heaven before the fall of Adam and Eve, so it includes elements of Hebrew, Greek, and Elvish.
This episode also included a sneak peek at Taliesin meeting the Lady of the Lake, which Boreing describes as one of the most important scenes of the first episode.
“Brilliant. Love the Atlantian language. If someone needed a reason to be a DailyWire+ member, this is it!!!” wrote one excited fan.
“This looks amazing,” another person wrote. “And to see the care of making a language for the production demonstrates the passion for the project. Can not wait for the release.”
“The Pendragon Cycle” is a scripted adaptation of the multi-award-winning series written by Stephen R. Lawhead. This heroic and epic adventure series will stream exclusively on DailyWire+ in 2024.
