A pro-LGBT group in Northern Virginia is claiming that the state’s attorney general is targeting transgender kids even as escalating tensions over a pending Supreme Court decision on abortion threaten to turn the Old Dominion into a political powder keg.

Equality Loudoun claimed that it “has obtained information that Attorney General Jason Miyares … is seeking to obtain the records of queer students in Loudoun County.” Miyares is already under fire from pro-abortion rights groups who have been protesting outside the home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, whose draft opinion overturning Roe v Wade was leaked on May 2. On Monday, a bullet was fired through a window at his Richmond office.

“Every single elected official and special interest group, regardless of their politics, must condemn this action unequivocally,” said Ian Prior, a Loudoun parent activist who leads the group Fight For Schools. He called the gunshot “an attempted deadly attack on the rule of law.”

There was no indication Monday whether the shot was related to either ongoing controversy, but Equality Loudoun was forceful in stoking outrage against Miyares.

“In a community already wracked by politically-motivated hate against our LGBTQ+ population, we strongly condemn the targeting of our transgender students simply because of their identity,” the group said.

Miyares is investigating Loudoun County Public Schools’ notorious handling of a bathroom rape by a transgender student who was quietly transferred to another school where he attacked another student.

On Monday, Steve Descano, a far-Left prosecutor elected to the post in Fairfax County with the help of cash from George Soros, jumped on the claim, tweeting: “This is so goddamn dangerous. For an AG to use a special grand jury to get at trans kids’ records is truly beyond the pale. This whole episode is an abuse of process and morally repugnant.”

Loudoun County Supervisor Juli Briskman also pushed the activists’ claims, tweeting: “So AG Miayres [sic] witch hunt subpoenas are targeting LGBTQI youth, specifically? This is wrong. How many other students have been targeted in this way?” That was preceded by a retweet that said, “Hey, Republican Party. Go f–k yourselves.”

But on Tuesday night at a Loudoun County Public Schools board meeting, even LCPS’ attorney Robert Falconi attempted to put the hysteria to rest.

“I want to make clear, I have personally not seen any subpoena that specifically requests the identities of any transgender students or LGBT students,” he said.

In addition to being called on to protect Alito and other justices, whose Northern Virginia homes have seen nightly protests, Miyares has also had to contend with threats to picket Virginia churches over the pending abortion ruling.

“Some on the extreme left have responded to this week’s reprehensible leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion by calling for pro-abortion protests inside and outside of Catholic parishes this Sunday,” Miyares said in a statement. “I deeply respect the First Amendment rights of speech and assembly. But no one has the right to interfere with the fundamental and natural right of all Virginians to practice their religion in peace.”
