<p>Taylor Lorenz, a former Washington Post and New York Times reporter and current podcaster for Vox Media, said on Wednesday that she wants health insurance executives &#8220;dead&#8221; just hours after UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was assassinated in Midtown Manhattan.</p>
<p>On the social media platform Bluesky, Lorenz reposted a report about Blue Cross Blue Shield not covering anesthesia costs for the entirety of some surgeries. Lorenz wrote, &#8220;And people wonder why we want these executives dead.&#8221; In <a href="https://x.com/clairlemon/status/1864503233798131957">another post</a>, Lorenz reposted a different link to the Blue Cross report and included a screenshot of Blue Cross Blue Shield CEO Kim Keck.</p>
<p>On X, Lorenz <a href="https://x.com/GrittyGetLitty/status/1864357104435249663" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reposted</a> a user who wrote, &#8220;Brian Thompson killed more US Citizens than every serial killer combined, but because he made money off it the media considered him a successful businessman and morally upstanding citizen.&#8221; Lorenz also reposted a Bluesky user who wrote, &#8220;[H]ypothetically, would it be considered an actionable threat to start emailing other insurance CEOs a simple ‘you&#8217;re next’? Completely unrelated to current events btw.&#8221;</p>
<p>Lorenz later justified her posts about Thompson and other health insurance executives, <a href="https://bsky.app/profile/taylorlorenz.bsky.social/post/3lcj4y7ndak2x" target="_blank" rel="noopener">writing</a>, &#8220;People have very justified hatred toward insurance company CEOs because these executives are responsible for an unfathomable amount of death and suffering. As someone against death and suffering, I think it’s good to call out this broken system and the ppl in power who enable it.&#8221;</p>
<p>The leftist tech writer told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/former-wapo-reporter-says-we-want-executives-dead-after-murder-health-insurance-ceo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a> that her post &#8220;is explaining the public sentiment.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;That said, healthcare executives absolutely want people dead as long as it helps their bottom line and that’s the entire problem,&#8221; Lorenz added. &#8220;My sympathies are with the innocent people who have died or suffered after being denied coverage by greedy insurance companies.&#8221;</p>

Columbia University professor Anthony Zenkus <a href="https://x.com/anthonyzenkus/status/1864415627844178087?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1864415627844178087%7Ctwgr%5Eb9ca6c70cde441a1d4ee3f7f974c52462a0b188e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.outkick.com%2Fanalysis%2Ftaylor-lorenz-other-left-wing-nuts-celebrate-murder-health-insurance-ceo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>, &#8220;Today, we mourn the death of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, gunned down&#8230;. wait, I&#8217;m sorry &#8211; today we mourn the deaths of the 68,000 Americans who needlessly die each year so that insurance company execs like Brian Thompson can become multimillionaires.&#8221;</p>
<p>David Austin Walsh, a historian and College Fellow at the University of Virginia, <a href="https://x.com/DavidAstinWalsh/status/1864349614821806206?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1864351517521694838%7Ctwgr%5Eb9ca6c70cde441a1d4ee3f7f974c52462a0b188e%7Ctwcon%5Es2_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.outkick.com%2Fanalysis%2Ftaylor-lorenz-other-left-wing-nuts-celebrate-murder-health-insurance-ceo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a>, &#8220;It’s actually kind of touching that the one thing that can bring together our fractious and disunited country is celebrating the assassination of a health insurance CEO.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Anyway try to live your life in such a way that if you’re murdered the entire Internet doesn’t think that you had it coming,&#8221; he added.</p>
<p>Thompson, 50, was killed on Wednesday morning by a masked gunman in dark clothing. The assassin shot the health insurance CEO multiple times before fleeing the scene and is still at-large. Detectives investigating the scene where Thompson was killed <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cryptic-messages-found-on-shell-casings-at-scene-where-health-insurance-ceo-was-gunned-down" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found shell casings</a> with the words “deny,” “defend,” and “depose” written on them, according to ABC News.</p>
<p>Thompson received multiple death threats before he was killed, and authorities are looking into the nature and source of those threats. UnitedHealthcare has been criticized for denying patients’ claims.</p>
