<p>NewsNation host Chris Cuomo unloaded on a caller who suggested that American citizens should arm themselves specifically as a defense against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents who might come to their homes or places of business.</p>
<p>Cuomo pushed back against the caller&#8217;s suggestion — one that was also voiced by Cuomo&#8217;s former CNN colleague Don Lemon days earlier — arguing that in addition to being illegal, it was reckless and highly dangerous to take up arms against law enforcement officers who were acting in their official capacities.</p>

<p>&#8220;The advice that you&#8217;re giving, about not arming yourself if you&#8217;re confronted by ICE, is advice that somebody would give that&#8217;s not threatened by being confronted by ICE,&#8221; the caller began. &#8220;But what if ICE came to NewsNation and started rounding everybody up? You&#8217;re brown, they decide to detain you, and don&#8217;t give you an opportunity to explain that you&#8217;re a citizen and they want to take you and you don&#8217;t know what&#8217;s going to happen if you go with them. Would your advice be the same?&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;One, you&#8217;re assuming effect — &#8216;you don&#8217;t know what&#8217;s going to happen,'&#8221; Cuomo replied. &#8220;You&#8217;re suggesting they may kill you, they may do something bad to you. They are not a gan. They are operating under color of authority. So you&#8217;re suggesting to me that if an officer makes a wrongful arrest, that it is okay for you to be violent to them, that&#8217;s what you&#8217;re saying?&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m saying what advice would you give someone that is being — that is under that type of threat?&#8221; the caller asked.</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m saying that violence against an officer who is operating with color of authority is stupid and illegal! And suggesting it is stupid and reckless!&#8221; Cuomo continued. &#8220;If that person has a boss and they&#8217;re in the media, they should be fired &#8230; I&#8217;m not telling you don&#8217;t bear arms, or don&#8217;t protect yourself, but just think about what you&#8217;re saying.&#8221;</p>
<p>Cuomo went on to give an example of a police officer coming to the door and saying they believe someone to be the person they&#8217;re looking for and making the arrest.</p>
<p>&#8220;You&#8217;re basically saying in that situation, you should be able to shoot them,&#8221; Cuomo observed. &#8220;It&#8217;s effin&#8217; crazy, okay? It&#8217;s just crazy talk!&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;How could you ever want to suggest that people should be violent?&#8221; he asked.</p>
<p>Cuomo&#8217;s comments come just days after Lemon, speaking with Wajahat Ali, argued that non-whites should take up arms in case ICE agents paid them a visit.</p>
