The Augusta Chronicle, a newspaper of sorts in the USA Today family, recently ran an article advertised as, “Election deniers are on the ballot in Georgia. Here’s who and why.”
Absent from the official list was Georgia’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.
It seems that certain elements of the legacy media apparatus have all but forgotten that Abrams has repeatedly stated that her first bid for governor was stolen from her.
Even Abrams now denies that she denied the 2018 election. That would make her an election denier denier.
Last month, Abrams told ABC’s “The View” that she has “never denied that I lost. I don’t live in the governor’s mansion; I would have noticed.”
As highlighted by The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board on Monday, Abrams said in 2019, “Despite the final tally and the inauguration. I do have one very affirmative statement to make. We won.”
Indeed, in 2018, after acknowledging that incumbent Governor Brian Kemp (R) secured the necessary number of votes, Abrams maintained that she was not giving a concession speech when she ended her candidacy.
‘‘So let’s be clear — this is not a speech of concession because concession means to acknowledge an action is right, true or proper,” Abrams said at the time. ‘‘Democracy failed Georgia.’’
How did democracy fail? Well, if you ask Abrams, the system was rigged and suppressed voters.
In an interview with The New York Times Magazine in 2019, Abrams asserted her rhetoric was different than former President Donald Trump who had questioned voter fraud throughout his career.
According to Abrams, Trump had no proof for his concern, while she had empirical evidence.
“I see those as very different. Trump is alleging voter fraud, which suggests that people were trying to vote more than once,” she explained. “Trump offers no empirical evidence to meet his claims. I make my claims based on empirical evidence, on a demonstrated pattern of behavior that began with the fact that the person I was dealing with was running the election.”
She also said that based on the available information, “it is sufficient to demonstrate that so many people were disenfranchised and disengaged by the very act of the person who won the election that I feel comfortable now saying, ‘I won.’”
To help prove that she won, a leftist group sued in court claiming that there was voter suppression in 2018.
After nearly four years of litigation, a federal judge ruled last week there was not any merit to that allegation.
Per the Journal, a judge appointed by President Barack Obama issued a 288-page ruling effectively shooting down claims that Georgia’s voting law in 2018 was illicit and discriminatory.
“Although Georgia’s election system is not perfect,” the judge wrote in his opinion, “the challenged practices violate neither the Constitution nor the [Voting Rights Act].”
“The political debate is full of rhetoric about how American elections are untrustworthy due to either voter fraud or voter suppression. It isn’t true, and the thing about federal courts is they demand evidence,” the Journal concluded. “Ms. Abrams doesn’t have it, despite telling the public in 2018 that she was robbed.”
Coming from the top, President Joe Biden and the rest of the Democratic Party have claimed that anybody who questions the integrity of U.S. elections is unfit for office. They say that the GOP is full of “MAGA Republicans” beholden to Trump who threatens our democracy.
It doesn’t seem likely that Abrams will ever admit that she lost the 2018 election, nor will she admit that she denied losing the 2018 election. We’ll hold our breath for Biden and the rest of the usual suspects to condemn her.
