So, How Many Of The Democrats Who ‘Sat-In’ To Protest The Constitution Actually Own Guns? The Number Will SHOCK You.

Congressional Democrats launched a childish and petty sit-in for further gun control last week. As it turns out, a number of them are serious hypocrites, since they’re gun owners.

The Democrats held the sit-in to push bills for universal background checks and prohibit those on the terror watch list from obtaining a firearm. The problem is, the shooter in the Orlando, FL terrorist attack passed a background check and wasn’t on the terror watch list at the time, making the Democrats’ whole sit-in a red herring.

To make it worse, the Democrats don’t practice what they preach. Here is the full list of 26 Democrats who participated in the sit-in who own a gun, as determined by Heat Street:

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick
Rep. Bennie Thompson
Rep. Dina Titus
Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger
Rep. Jared Huffman
Rep. Jim Cooper
Rep. Jim Costa
Rep. John Carney
Rep. John Garamendi
Rep. Keith Ellison
Rep. Mike Thompson
Rep. Peter DeFazio
Rep. Peter Welch
Rep. Rick Nolan
Rep. Ron Kind
Rep. Steve Cohen
Rep. Tim Ryan
Sen. Gary Peters
Sen. Harry Reid
Sen. Mark Warner
Sen. Martin Heinrich
Sen. Patrick Leahy
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse
Sen. Tammy Baldwin
Sen. Tim Kaine
Sen. Tom Carper

Heat Street was able to obtain the information from a 2013 USA Today survey on congressional members who own a firearm; 12 congressional Democrats who participated in the sit-in did not answer the survey.

Here are some statements that these hypocritical Democrats have made in the past on gun control:

  • Kaine: “This body has been impotent, weak, silent and a bystander to this carnage of gun violence that is going on in the United States. There will be no meaningful gun safety reforms done in this body unless it is bipartisan. We’ve got to make progress, and to make progress we’ve got to do it in a bipartisan way.”
  • Warner: “The status quo isn’t acceptable. I’ve got three daughters. They asked me on Friday evening, ‘Dad, what are you gonna do about this?’ There’s got to be a way to put reasonable restrictions, particularly as we look at assault weapons, as we look at these fast clips of ammunition.”

Then there’s Ellison:

The congressional Democrats will also be holding a “national day of action” on Wednesday to further their push gun control agenda and abuse the Constitution. The fact is that they want to take away guns from law-abiding citizens, yet own guns to protect themselves.

Hypocrisy, thy name is Democrats.
