Sexist Trump Breaks Another Glass Ceiling For Women In Government

By  Amanda Prestigiacomo

Gina Haspel, the nominee to run the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), is all but confirmed after winning over the support of three key Senate Democrats — Sen. Mark Warner (VA), Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (ND) and Sen. Bill Nelson (FL) — on Tuesday night.

As highlighted by the Washington Examiner’s Andy Keiser, Haspel is immensely qualified for the position. She served in the CIA for 33 years, first joining in 1985. Haspel was a standout in her position at the Directorate of Operations and transferred to the Counterterrorism Center on September 11, 2001. (Talk about a high-pressure first day.) Quickly moving up the ranks, Haspel earned “several honors including the George H.W. Bush Award for Excellence in Counterterrorism, the Donovan Award, the Intelligence Medal of Merit, and the Presidential Rank Award,” writes Keiser.

And she happens to be a woman. Haspel, nominated by President Donald Trump, will be the first woman ever to lead the CIA.

Now, first things first: few women are a fan of President Trump’s alleged affairs and demeaning language used to describe women — myself included. And it’s totally fair game and arguably necessary to call out such behavior.

But where is this “Handmaid’s Tale” fantasy I keep hearing about from feminists? When it comes to Trump running the federal government, there have been a grand total of zero rollbacks to women’s rights. (Note to feminists: killing babies in the womb is not “women’s healthcare,” you ghouls.) On the contrary, Trump has broken more “glass ceilings” for women than Hillary Clinton could dream of.

Trump hired pollster Kellyanne Conway to run his 2016 campaign, and she became the first woman ever to lead a successful run to the presidential office. Conway currently serves as counselor to the president. Mr. Trump tapped Sarah Huckabee Sanders as White House Press Secretary, only the third female in such a position ever. The first female African-American Marine brigadier general, Marine Corps Col. Lorna M. Mahlock, was also nominated by the Trump Administration.

Here are just some other female appointments and nominations by President Trump, as reported by The Hill:

Elaine Chao, Secretary of Transportation; Kirstjen Nielsen, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security; Dr. Heather Wilson, Secretary of the Air Force; … Linda McMahon, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration; Betsy DeVos, Secretary of Education; Jovita Carranza, U.S. Treasurer (also a minority and first-generation Mexican American immigrant); Neomi Rao, Regulation Czar (also a minority and daughter of parents from India); Seema Verma, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (also a minority); Heather Brand, Associate Attorney General; Kelly Sadler, Director of Surrogate & Coalitions Outreach; Mercedes Schlapp, Senior Communications Advisor (also a minority whose father was once a political prisoner of Fidel Castro); Ivanka Trump, Advisor to the President; Hope Hicks, Communications Director; Jessica Ditto, Deputy Director of Communications; and Dina Powell, Deputy National Security Adviser who according to White House sources will remain in her position through the end of January and will likely be replaced by another woman after Powell completes her first year in office.

And now Haspel at CIA Director.

But, clearly, all these female nominees and appointments are just a cover for his rampant woman-hating. Let’s just hope Trump’s “sexism” in office continues.
