<p>WASHINGTON—Second lady Usha Vance is set to travel to Greenland this week as part of an official United States delegation, her office shared on Sunday.</p>
<p>Usha Vance will visit &#8220;historical sites, learn about Greenlandic heritage, and attend the Avannaata Qimussersu, Greenland&#8217;s national dogsled race,&#8221; her office said. That race includes 444 dogs and 37 mushers &#8220;in a remarkable display of speed, skill, and teamwork.&#8221;</p>
<p>Vance will bring one of her sons with her on the visit. It&#8217;s not immediately clear which son that is.</p>
<p>&#8220;Ms. Vance and the delegation are excited to witness this monumental race and celebrate Greenlandic culture and unity,&#8221; the press release said. &#8220;They will return to the United States on Saturday, March 29, 2025.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m particularly thrilled to visit during your national dog sled race, which our country is proud to support and to sponsor,&#8221; she said in an Instagram message. &#8220;I&#8217;ve been reading all about it with my children, and I&#8217;m amazed by the incredible skill and team work that it takes to participate in this race.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m also coming to celebrate the long history of mutual respect and cooperation between our nations, and to express hope that our relationship will only grow stronger in the coming years,&#8221; she added. &#8220;I look forward to meeting many of you soon, and to learning from you about your beautiful land, culture, and tradition.&#8221;</p>
<p>The trip comes amidst a push from President Donald Trump for Greenland to become part of the United States.</p>
<p>Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-greenland-will-benefit-tremendously-if-and-when-it-becomes-part-of-our-nation">said on January 7 in a Truth Social post:</a> &#8220;Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation. We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”</p>
<p>Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede told Fox News in January that he’s “open” to discussions over America’s role in Greenland’s defense — but not interested in becoming part of the United States.</p>
<p>“We don’t want to be Danes. We don’t even want to be Americans. We want to be Greenlanders,” Egede said.</p>
