An elementary school in Massachusetts has cancelled Halloween for not being “inclusive enough.”
According to local reports, Boyden Elementary School in Walpole will not be hosting its annual Halloween costume parade for the students. In a message to parents, the school principle said that the parade does not respect students’ “individual differences.”
“The costume parade is out of our ordinary routine and can be difficult for many students,” said the principal. “Also, the parade is not inclusive of all the students and it is our goal each and every day to ensure all student’s individual differences are respected.”
Instead of Halloween, the school will be celebrating the politically correct “Black and Orange” spirit day. A Halloween party will be held, but only during after-school hours.
Some parents have expressed outrage over the political correctness.
“I think it’s a lot of political correctness,” a Walpole woman said. “I think it’s a shame because Halloween is the funnest day of the year next to Christmas for children.”
Other parents were upset that the kids will be disappointed.
“We have grand-kids going to Boyden School. Wonderful school,” a grandmother of a student said. “The Halloween party should happen on Friday cause all the kids are excited.”
“Put a costume on. Parade down the street. Let them have their little time,” a Walpole man said. “Why do you have to turn it into something political?”
The political correctness of Halloween has been gaining steam for some years now. On top of snowflakes cautioning against whatever costume they’ve deemed offensive for that year, schools have also taken to cancelling the festivities to avoid offending students.
Last year, another school in Massachusetts cancelled Halloween for similar reasons, opting to celebrate another politically correct, made up, “inclusive” holiday that celebrated autumn.
