Lady Rose Hanbury finally broke her silence and responded to long-standing rumors about  allegations she had an affair with Kate Midldeton’s husband Prince William that date back to 2019.

Hanbury, who is married to David Cholmondeley, said through her attorney that affair “rumors are completely false,” Business Insider reported, via Page Six.

The affair rumors have been floating around for years, but recently sparked back up again following Kate Middleton’s absence from public appearances since her abdominal surgery in January. Her lengthy absence from the public has led to the rumors about the state of the Princess of Wales’ marriage, which has led people back to Hanbury.

In an episode last week, Stephen Colbert on “The Late Show” took those rumors public when he mentioned on the show that “internet sleuths are guessing that Kate’s absence may be related to her husband and the future king of England, William, having an affair.”

“So, I think we all know who the alleged other woman is. Say it with me –– the Marchioness of Cholmondeley –– what a beautiful name!” he added, mentioning Hanbury’s full title and mocking her name. “According to tabloids back then, when Kate supposedly confronted him about it, he laughed it off, saying there was nothing to it. Always a good response when your wife accuses you of cheating.”

Speculation about Princess Kate’s health and whereabouts reached a fever pitch last week after Kensington Palace shared a family photo of Middleton and her children in honor of U.K. Mother’s Day. However, hours after it appeared in publications, the Associated Press issued a “kill notification” on the photo it said had been “manipulated.”

Later, the palace acknowledged the photo had been edited. A message from Middleton on X read, “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.”

Some of the wilder theories that have been floated suggested that Middleton was in a coma or possibly had undergone plastic surgery. There was even speculation that the royal could be in some kind of rehab facility or dead.

In January, Kensington Palace released a statement saying that the Princess of Wales would remain in the hospital for up to two weeks before being released to continue her recovery at home. The statement said she would not return to royal public duties until after Easter.

The Prince and Princess of Wales tied the knot in 2011 and have three children together, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
