The latest dud of a “scandal” surrounding Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) fell flat on social media this week, despite activists’ best efforts.
An account with nearly half a million followers called PatriotTakes, which is partnered with leftist group MeidasTouch Media, posted screenshots of DeSantis using his family photos for different social media posts.
That was the scandal, apparently.
“Ron DeSantis’ family is wearing the exact same clothes in both their Christmas and New Year Instagram posts,” the account captioned the screenshots.
“After posting two week old photos while Ron DeSantis was MIA, we have now discovered that DeSantis has been recycling the same family shoot photos for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. DeSantis is a phony,” PatriotTakes wrote in a follow-up tweet.
Notably, DeSantis was smeared as being “missing in action” by leftists while he was accompanying his wife Casey DeSantis at her cancer treatment. The couple shared the diagnosis back in October.

The attempt to hurt DeSantis was swiftly mocked online.

Lauren Chen wrote, “I know this may seem strange to some on Twitter,” adding, “But occasionally, a day warrants more than one photo.”

As highlighted by The Daily Wire’s Tim Pearce, DeSantis on Wednesday accompanied Casey to her cancer treatment while he was attacked by critics for supposedly taking time off:
While DeSantis’ public schedule has been light in the last couple weeks of the year, the Florida governor has not gone on vacation, staying busy in less publicized work such as staff meetings. On Wednesday, however, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings set off a torrent of criticism of DeSantis by suggesting that the governor had abandoned Florida to a recent variant of the coronavirus.
“Our residents, all Florida residents should be outraged, and they should ask the question, ‘Now, where’s our state? Where’s our governor?’” Demings said. “Where is Ron DeSantis now? When was the last time you saw the governor do a press briefing regarding COVID-19?”
[…] That same day, DeSantis had taken his wife, Casey, to a cancer treatment session, a spokesman for DeSantis’ office told Fox News.
