Actor and director Rob Reiner sparred with comedian and HBO host Bill Maher over communication between Republicans and Democrats, and Reiner suggested that if such dialogues were to happen, Republicans would first have to agree to a few ground rules.
Reiner, known for his role as Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the CBS sitcom “All in the Family,” told Maher that it would be impossible for him to talk to Republicans unless they first agreed on certain “facts.”

“But here’s the thing,” Reiner interrupted. “You’re right, but here’s the thing. Let’s say we’re gonna have that argument. You’re gonna talk to somebody and you have a point of view, the other person has a point of view. Before you have the exchange, you have to agree on certain facts!”
“No, you don’t. You can’t. Once you start down that road — these are — you just have to talk to people,” Maher said.
“No, no, you talk to people, but if somebody says 2+2 is 4 and the other guy says no it’s not, how do you begin the discussion?”
“Because it’s a — because, Rob, that’s a slippery slope! … If you start down that road of, ‘I can’t talk to you if you believe this crazy thing’ — because maybe — you just can’t!” Maher said.
