RFK Defends Possible VP Choice Aaron Rodgers: ‘He’s Been Hammered By The Press’

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JULY 25: Democratic Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. speaks during the World Values Network's Presidential candidate series at the Glasshouse on July 25, 2023 in New York City. Kennedy Jr., who is running a longshot primary campaign against President Joe Biden, joined Rabbi Shmuley Boteach to discuss fighting antisemitism and the championing of Israel. Kennedy has faced backlash for his stances on vaccines, most recently for comments he made suggesting that the coronavirus (COVID-19) disease could have been “targeted to attack Caucasians and Black people,” while sparing Jewish and Chinese people. He has denied allegations of racism and antisemitism.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made headlines earlier this week when it was reported that he was considering New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers as a potential running mate in the 2024 election – and he defended that choice during a Wednesday interview.

Kennedy, who made an appearance on “Fox News @ Night,” told anchor Trace Gallagher that he respected the way Rodgers had “stood up” to media scrutiny in recent months, adding that he believed the former Green Bay Packer to be truly “battle-tested.”

Gallagher pressed Kennedy on the possibility that he could choose Rodgers, who spent most of his first season with the Jets recuperating from Achilles surgery, and Kennedy was quick to praise the NFL star.

“Well, he’s — you know, he’s one of the people that we’ve talked to. I really like Aaron because, you know, our appeal is to young people, we’re trying to make sure the young people are participating in the political process, that they have hope for America,” Kennedy explained, adding, “We want somebody young who’s going to look out for that generation. Aaron Rodgers is battle-tested.”

“He’s stood up. He’s been hammered by the press, stood up for things we believe in. I like that part of his character,” Kennedy continued. “He’s a critical thinke,r and I think we need that at the time as you know the rise of AI. We need people who understand that you cannot always trust authority just because somebody’s in charge. It doesn’t mean that they’re telling you the truth and we want somebody who’s going to critically examine.”

Kennedy went on to mention his father, Robert F. Kennedy Sr. — who was assassinated during his own presidential run — saying that he had learned from him at a young age to treat authority with “skepticism,” and arguing that Rodgers certainly exemplified that.

“He’s also somebody who I think will help me get the country healthy again. You know, he’s 40 years old. He’s focused on his own health. He’s very aware of health issues. And you know, that’s one of the things I’m going to — that’s one of the key parts of my agenda is to get the country healthy again,” Kennedy added.
