Comedian Ricky Gervais reportedly told an audience at a show in London that he “wouldn’t have made a joke about” Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair, but would have made wisecracks about “her boyfriend” if he had been hosting the Oscars.
During the 60-year-old comic’s appearance in Highgate, Gervais reportedly told the room he didn’t yet have any jokes related to Will Smith and his slapping of Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards show Sunday after the comedian cracked a joke about Jada’s shaved head amid her hair loss battle, reported the Mirror in a piece published Thursday.
“I’ll get it out of the way,” the “Ghost Town” star shared. “I have not got any Will Smith material. I trended when that happened and I was not even there.”
“What has it got to do with me?” he added. “People were going ‘What would have happened if Ricky Gervais had been doing it (hosting Oscars)?”
“Well, nothing as I would not have made a joke about his wife’s hair,” Gervais continued. “I would have made a joke about her boyfriend.”

The stand-up comedian also reportedly joked about renaming his show following what happened at the Oscars.
“This new material is going to be for my new show called Armageddon,” Gervais shared. “I might change that to Alopecia.”
Gervais’ comments were a reference to Smith’s wife confirming in 2020 she had been in an “entanglement” with 27-year-old singer August Alsina, while she was still married to Smith.
As previously reported by The Daily Wire, Pinkett Smith admitted to the affair with Alsina while she said the couple was going through a rough time.
According to the duo, they were going through a rough time and split up “amicably,” though still legally married. Pinkett Smith started a friendship with Alsina that turned into an “entanglement,” which the actress later classified as a “relationship” when pressed by Smith.
The “Bad Boys” actor was in the know about the affair, the couple discussed. “There’s never been secrets,” Pinkett Smith said.
However, Smith did not give “permission,” since, argued Pinkett Smith, “the only person who could give permission in this particular circumstance was myself.”
Smith agreed.

During a segment at the Oscars, the 57-year-old comedian remarked about how no one was wearing a mask in the theater before he turned his attention to Denzel Washington and praised him for his part in the movie “The Tragedy of MacBeth.” The superstar comedian then spotted Will Smith’s wife in the audience and cracked a joke about how Jada was going to be in the next “G.I. Jane” movie.
“Jada, I love ya,” Rock said. “G.I. Jane 2 movie, can’t wait to see it.”
Smith then got up from his seat and struck Rock in the face.
“Oh wow, wow. Will Smith just smacked the s*** outta me,” Rock said.
Smith then repeatedly shouted, “Keep my wife’s name out your f***ing mouth!”
“Wow, dude,” Rock replied. “It was a G.I. Jane joke.”
Smith later accepted his first Oscar ever for Best Actor for his role in the film “King Richard.” During his acceptance speech, he apologized to the Academy and to the other nominees but didn’t appear to apologize to Rock. Late Monday, the actor apologized to the comedian in a lengthy post on Instagram where he admitted that his actions were “out of line” and “wrong.”
On Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Smith’s actions at the 94th Academy Awards are under “formal review.” Days later, the Academy released a statement that Smith was “asked to leave the ceremony and refused,” reported the Hollywood Reporter.
